 "it works fine" 2009-07-23
By KayRivera (El Centro, CA United States)
Sure its hot on the outside, but so is a regular oven. That's just the "nature of the beast".

We purchased this one from Target on sale. You can make regular sized pizza in it (why we're sold on it).

I don't like the plastic front. It should be glass.

The controls aren't designed very well, kinda cheap. I manually wound down the timer dial & now sometimes the timer will just stop when it has 5-10 minutes left.

I don't need all the features I don't use grill, it doesn't really do anything. & I don't use the toast feature. Toasting bread & stuff on the stove-top griddle works easier.

 "burns toast - timer doesn't work" 2009-06-21
By C. Hendry (Riverside, CA USA)
Don't buy -- not even on sale! I agree with this reviewer who said -- If you make your toast some other way and need a backup oven, go for it. If you want a toaster that makes, uh, toast... Go elsewhere!

The timer doesn't work - you have to watch it constantly or it burns toast.

Also, after 8 months, the knobs are stripped and now we have to guess when setting the temp and function.

"I hate this thing SO MUCH...." 2009-01-19
By April Jean (Charlottesville, VA)
We got this at Target a few months ago. Our toast is ALWAYS burnt or undercooked as there is no way to set it to get it to toast the same way twice. You have to stand there and watch your toast/bagel/waffle/whatever like a HAWK and it's so annoying. We thought it would take us a little time to get used to the settings, but we'd figure it out...but we haven't. And we used it almost every day. If we had all the money for all the bread this thing has burned, we could have bought a top-of-the line toaster oven. I can't tell you how awful this thing is and how miserable it makes me.

If you have 45 minutes to wait for toast, then this is the toaster for you. Serioulsy, I have to put my toast in b/f I shower, then I shower, dry off...etc...get dressed, do my hair, do my make up, then go out and my toast is just about done! 45 minutes later! This thing is so slow and underpowered I could toast faster on my sidewalk in January. BTW I live in the north. I have 3 friends that have the same toaster and they all agree. DO NOT BUY THIS TOASTER!

 "POEWR ON" 2008-08-01
By Rice Delman (Chicago, IL)
That wasn't a typo, the power indicator on the front actually reads "POEWR". How did that make it past quality control?

When I asked for a toaster oven for Christmas, I specifically said "NOT EURO-PRO", but got this anyway. I felt like Eric Forman not asking for an eight-track player and getting one nonetheless...

Anyway, I suppose that this machine does what it's supposed to do, although it does get the kitchen very warm in the process and kinda feels junky. The only issue I have besides the POEWR light is the pan that came with it. It has a raised platform in the middle, which cuts it's usable surface area down to about the size of half a piece of bread. Why would they do that? It makes no sense. So instead of fitting a dozen wings in the pan, I can now fit three, otherwise they'll roll off the slant. Stupid. Great job Euro-Pro!

A 1,500-watt countertop unit, the Euro-Pro oven does everything from toast to rotisserie to convection bake. Straightforward and simple to use, the oven features a multidial control panel, with one dial each for temperature, function, and time. The temperature dial ranges from 180 to 450 degrees F, and the function dial includes settings for keep warm, rotisserie, toast, broil, and bake. The oven’s 15-minute timer includes a printed toasting guide and a stay-on option. Engaged by a separate switch, the convection system can be used with any of the settings. It accommodates up to 9-inch bakeware and the use of both cookie sheets at once.

Housed in stainless steel, the oven features a tempered safety glass door with a comfortable, heat-resistant handle. The interior comes with an automatic light and a self-cleaning coating that wipes down easily. Accessories include two cookie sheets, two wire racks, a rotisserie wheel, a rotisserie handle, a broiler rack, a crumb tray, a tray/rack handle, a drip pan with a porcelain enamel finish, a fish basket, and six rotisserie skewers.  "dissapointing product" 2009-01-17
By S. Boatwright (brooklyn, ny)
I chose this oven because it seemed to have the large capacity that I was looking for. It has good looks, but each time I recieved a "brand new" oven, immediately had a problem. The first time, one of the heating coils failed to light, I was sent a new one but decided to use the "old" one, since it did heat up. After it finally died, I brought out the new replacement, It heated properly, but the door hinge broke & the door dangled. I decided to order another one, again for it's large size, & this one too showed defaults, none of the coils lit to indicate it was getting hot, plus I never heard the fan, (it was a convection oven) I am back to square one, looking for another convection oven, it won't be a Euro Pro.

what a total waste of cash. The outside heats up to a perfect skin searing temperature, the exhaust fan works intermitantly, the door fell off after 2 years of very light use. toast was never a possibility, you end up with something more akin to Wasa crisps. I have never attempted to rotisserie a chicken as I have yet to find a chicken that will fit into the incredibly tiny space allowed for it. Shame on me for not doing my reasearch before buying.

I got this as a gift for my husband. He always wanted a rotisserie as he likes to experiment cooking all types of meat. When it came in we were all amazed at how HUGE it is! I got this maybe 2 years ago and it is still in it's original box as we have no room to set it up, but that was my mistake. All in all, if I had the room, it would definetly be up and we'd be using it for every special occasion roasting a ham or roast.

 "junk!" 2007-01-25
By JHS in Florida (St. Petersburg, Florida)
Today I brought back from my office my $20 Black & Decker Toaster Oven. I am having company and would like to toast 4 slices of toast and be able to eat them. I purchased the Euro-pro 6 months ago, and it is a piece of junk....very poor quality as described in the previous reviews. I retired my old Black & Decker to my office after I bought the Euro Pro. Toast in the Euro Pro takes forever, and because of the long time, it is like a rock! Steaks for two on broil...forget it.....45 minutes for rare. Refrigerator biscuits....30 minutes. My final, end of the line with this thing was heating taco shells last night. We waited, and waited and waited. The temp was at 450, as high as you can go, and we waited. There is nothing that I have cooked in this that was fast or good. If you are thinking of buying this, don't! Go buy a cheap little toaster oven and use that, it will work a lot better and save you a whole lot of money, time and grief.

 "Double duty,,,,in theory" 2009-08-30
By Elizabeth Jambard (Hollis, NH USA)
I couldn't wait to purchase a Toastation toaster since it had the toaster and a toaster oven. However, it was awkward to use and seemed cheaply made. When using the toaster, there was no way to stop the toasting early if desired. If they were to make the necessary design changes, I would purchase another one because I still think the concept is a good one.

"Looks good and works well" 2007-07-19
By M. Mckinney (Kingston, TN)
My main complaint about this toaster oven is the finish. The description said it is "brushed" stainless, and technically it is. But there are very few brush strokes and it has more of a chrome look. I purchased this one because I wanted it to match my newly renovated kitchen with stainless appliances. It looks better than the white one I had, but not what I had in mind. It works well, though I do miss the built in timer my other toaster oven had. Also, it doesn't have a broil function. Definitely a space saver having the regular toaster built in though.

"Broken knob within 4 months" 2009-04-10
By Dog Owner (Lake Mary, FL USA)
I loved this little toaster oven. The price was right, and I was getting used to its little oddities. For example, the toast setting is a guess each time. BUT... within 4 months, the temperature knob broke, and it cannot be fixed. I am now using a screw driver to turn the knob. I am sure having to turn the knob forward past 20 minutes before turning it backward to the desired temperature probably puts too much drag on the knob. Considering the number of reviewers who have commented on this problem, it clear it is an design flaw which negates any positives. Resist the temptation... don't buy this product.

"First Toaster Oven, Seems to be Alright" 2009-04-09
By Brod (FoCo, CO)
This is my first toaster oven; bought mine at a local B&M store. It seems to be alright so far, but there are a few things I want to point out.

Knobs: Cheap feeling, and the timer knob is broken. I suspect this is a known problem based on other people complaining of the same issue. I emailed Oster to get a replacement knob and they were very quick to offer a replacement upgrade oven (said they did not have any knobs).

Hot: I think this is a very common problem due to the very nature of toaster ovens: The top, rear, and the silver section on the front where the knobs reside get VERY hot. The rear is thin 1-ply sheet of metal and is not insulated at all. The top is multi-walled/thick, but it gets very hot still, especially with the glass panel on the top. I'm not sure what's up with the metal section behind the knobs getting hot, this seems like a very strange place to generate heat, not to mention dangerous since your hands go there and I'm sure there are some electrical components back there somewhere.

Glass Panel on the Top: People seem to like this , but I view it as a HUGE loss point for heat, which equals more electricity usage and less effective distribution of heat. The whole door is glass, so I just look through there to see how my food is coming along.

Other than these few things, this oven works fine for me; seems to cook food evenly, and there are enough of the typical settings to find the correct setting to cook most anything that will fit inside.

"Shoddy Knobs, Uneven Cooking, Incinerated Toast. Don't Buy It." 2009-01-24
By blueblue (Portland, OR)
I'm giving this two stars because it didn't explode or fail completely. I also liked the looks and certain promised features well enough to buy it in the first place, so it has a couple things going for it. But I would advise against buying it.

We got ours from Target, on clearance (I wonder why?) in late October. By November, the timer knob was falling off all the time and broken, and by December it wouldn't go on at all. The plastic part at the back of the knob that attached it to the metal prong inside just broke into several pieces. At first they were stuck around the metal prong, but eventually they fell out. I tried using heatsafe glue to reconnect the broken pieces to the knob and then just push the knob back onto the prong, but the plastic was actually stressed to the point it had deformed too much to glue into any workable position. (Much like when you stretch plastic by bending it back and forth repeatedly.) We are currently using a screwdriver to turn the metal stump that originally held the knob. I believe the problem lies in that the knobs are made of and connected by inferior material, and the directions require you to turn the knob past the 20 minute mark, then back, if you want a time of less than 20 minutes, which for things like toast or bagels or bread, you usually do. When you do that, you can feel that it doesn't feel right. But that's what they tell you to do. There are two other knobs that we aren't using any more than we have to now because they feel stiff and poorly-moving like the broken one did.

Apart from the knobs, the toaster set promised a baking sheet, broiler pan, and removable crumb tray. After some confusion, we realized that the "baking pan" is the bottom of the broiler pan. Not exactly as promised. If they're making a big deal of pans because they fit in the featured drawer, they should include the pans as described, not fudge it.

As for the function, it's hit or miss. There are a lot of hot spots and variations you have to get used to with this, and somehow even though it seems to cook the food and bread products, they don't really get very hot. You can make a rock-hard piece of toast that butter won't melt on even though you just removed it from a hot oven. Don't ask me how it happens. However, toast is usually burned in this oven, as is pretty much anything cooked on the Toast setting. I usually "toast" my bread on the Bake setting, since every time I've used Toast my bread comes out charred. Other members of my family eat their toast with minimal charring as long as they literally sit in front of the toaster watching it so it doesn't burn.

Just to be clear, I've used toaster ovens all my life. I've never regularly used a plain old standup toaster. So my criticism is in no part a criticism of toaster ovens in general. I love toaster ovens. I've heard they take longer to toast bread than plain toasters. This one seems to take way less time on the Toast setting to totally incinerate my bread. On the Bake setting it seems normal to speedy.

The heating elements are totally exposed and very easy to burn yourself on. I'm not saying I'm agile with all appliances, but I've never burned myself with any toaster oven as much as I have this one, and I've had at least seven. I think the elements are also the culprit with the cooking issues. They run EXTREMELY hot, so if you position food directly over or under them, it burns without exception. Trying to center the food plus repositioning the racks to get food the proper distance from the elements leads to a lot of inadvertent burns on the back of the hand trying to get the food just so it will heat but not burn. Yes, heating elements have to be hot to cook food, but they shouldn't burn food that is cooking at a mild temperature (say 325º) for just 5 minutes on a rack in a position specified by the manufacturer. You simply cannot put food directly above an element, ever. The bottom elements are also wedged right above the crumb tray, which warps with heat whenever you use the toaster, so it's impossible to get out unless it's completely cool.

I don't really like how this oven reheats meats and fish, either. Whether on 325º or 350º or 375º, this oven overcooks the food without getting it to a really hot temperature. I don't understand how it happens. I reheat rare steaks a lot and they are never heated enough until they're very well done (I've been getting roast cuts so they reheat okay and stay tasty). In my old DeLonghis I could get the steak to sizzle on the outside while being warm on the inside but still pink. In this toaster it can be sizzling like crazy but refrigerated on the inside. I'd try Broil, but it it similar to the crematory Toast setting, and I haven't wanted to waste any steaks yet.

The Bake setting does do a great job reheating casserole-type dishes and pastas like manicotti. The outsides and sauces don't overheat and separate very often. You just have to cut things into small enough pieces so the inside gets hot.

Several aspects of the design of this toaster are winners. It looks great. I'm looking at it right now, and even with its stumpy hole, I love its cute modern-but-retro look and sleek round-edged top. The drawer to store pans, the glass top, large capacity, and the wide front view are all very nice. The sides stay relatively cool for an oven, and in general you don't feel waves of heat coming at you when it's on. I like the 4 positions for the oven rack, but they really should have included two racks so you can cook more things at once. But none of the design perks make up for the lack of performance in this appliance.

I really wanted this oven to work out, especially since I was the one who selected it. I was excited about it. But unfortunately it's the worst toaster oven I've ever owned or used. I'm going to be trying the Black & Decker CTO6301 6-Slice Convection Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel next, and will update how it is in comparison. It's about $10-$15 more, depending on the day's price, but if it works the way a toaster oven should, I'm thrilled to pay that.

 "Hate this toaster oven" 2009-01-10
By PghYinzer (Pittsburgh, PA United States)
We had the el cheapo Black & Decker toaster oven for about 4 or 5 years and it served us well until the temp. knob went a little wonky and wouldn't work. We thought we'd go a little fancier for our next toaster oven without going Cuisinart fancy. We got this Oster at Target because it seemed like what we wanted - big mistake!

Our old toaster over just had a lever for toasting. On this one, you have to turn the knob and pick a number of minutes to toast. Somehow I always get it wrong and my toast is charred or undercooked. I miss the lever!

If the rack is in the top position it's REALLY close to the top elements and it's really easy to burn your hand if you reach in to grab your toast or whatever. I have burned my hand a few times. Never had this problem with the old one.

And even with the rack on the top slot, I find this burns the bottoms of my son's chicken nuggets.

I hate this thing. I can't give it 0 stars because it does work, but I think I liked the old cheapie B&D a lot more. My biggest gripe is the toasting - my husband says lets just get a normal toaster, too, then but I don't want another appliance on my counters. I just wish this thing would die so we could replace it.

Bought this about six years ago specifically to bake frozen apptizers in my toaster oven. I don't heat the oven above 400 deg. Have had no trouble with the coating coming off. The rack's only use is to cover damp carpet after I've cleaned up cat barf. Then no one walks on the spot that's being air dried. Only 4 stars because the pan is much smaller than most toaster ovens are now.

 "disappointed" 2006-02-19

The first time I washed the grill, some of the black coating came off. The second time I washed it, more black coating came off. I am tempted to just get it over with and wash off all the coating so perhaps I can use it without being afraid of getting teflon chips in my grilled meat. The advertisement should show the pan with a dollar bill next to it so the customer can see how tiny the pan really is. The size they give in inches in the description is misleading because the pan has almost no depth to it. I would recommend buying if for a dollar and have them send it free. Then you won't feel so badly when you see how much money you wasted on it.

 "Avoid like the plague." 2006-01-03
By S. Reid (London, England)
This thing is a sin. Admittedly, as the good reviews note, this is a non-stick Toaster Over Broiler Pan. As such, it does do what all the good reviews say it will. But of course it does, all non-stick toaster oven broiler pans will.

But that's not the point. The point is to review THIS pan, and as I noted above, this pan is a sin. It does all the good things the other reviews note, UNTIL about an hour after you receive it when the non-stick coating starts to flake off. Wash it, and it gets even worse. The point here is simple, as others noted, the non-stick coating won't even stick to the surface of the pan, and therefore it ain't non-stick for long.

I haven't found another effective solution for my toaster oven yet, but I can tell you that this certainly isn't one. In the words of the immortal Pet Shop Boys: It's a, it's a, it's a... It's A Sin.

...little toaster oven. We live in an RV, so I don't have much counter space. Most 4-slice toaster ovens are too deep, so I can't open the door all the way. Even the toaster oven with the slide up door had too large a footprint for my counter space. This little baby is perfect. Its only defect is being too shallow to bake a potato, say. I toast bread and sliced bagels. I toast sandwiches with ham slices on one piece of bread and cheese on the other piece. I can bake refrigerator cookies too.

"Useless for anything but very thin toast" 2009-03-17
By Bonnie Karrin (Los Angeles, CA)
It's very hard to find toaster ovens for only 2 slices these days. Most are for 4 to even 6 slices and can't fit on my counter. I bought this one because it fit BUT the height is SOOOO low that nothing but a thin piece of bread will cook in it without bursting into flames - a kaiser roll actually touches the top heating element. Needless to say, I sent this directly back as I really didn't want my house to burn down.

This might seem picky, but really it is called a "toaster oven" not just a "toaster" and I bought it to be able to make more than just toast, otherwise I'd just buy a toaster.

This is a mighty toaster oven! I bake cookies, and am planning to broil some food in this tiny toaster. it is about the size of a loaf of bread, if you want to picture the size of it. it comes with an airbake pan which make cooking very easy! the timer on it makes cooking for me quite simple, since I often burn things because I get distracted!

I bought mine at fry's electronics for $17, but at $20 I still say it is well worth every penny.

I also love being able to use my counters without having a humongous oven taking up all the elbow room- makes my tiny kitchen seems spacious!

I would love it more if it came in black...

 "does the job" 2008-10-14
By Sofia Muller (Chicago, Il, USA)
I didn't really have any choice if I wanted to free up very valuable counter space - this is the only toaster over with the hood, there are no other models, and it does the job fine. The toaster oven itself isn't that great, but, like I said, unless I want it to sit on the counter, I don't have a choice.

Holds the toaster oven just fine, and doesn't heat up the cabinet it's attached to.

 "works great!" 2007-03-11
By J. Brooks (Brooklyn, NY)
This product works exactly the way we wanted. We've had no problems at all with heat on our wood cabinets and the toaster oven has stayed secure in it's holder. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the appearance ove the product. It's kind of clunky looking. The model that works the with new B&D toaster ovens is much more attractive.

 "Do not buy this" 2007-02-07
By Dennis Demessianos (Middletown, RI United States)
Black & Decker no longer makes, and no one has in stock a compatible toaster oven for this mount. People sell the compatible ovens used on eBay for upwards of $100.00 plus shipping.

 "Heat Guard/Rack" 2006-08-20
By K. Albertson (Mantua, NJ United States)
It is just what I wanted. The rack supports the toaster oven under the cabinet, freeing up counterspace for other uses. It is easy to slide the toaster out for cleaning, if necessary. Serves exactly the purpose intended.

"Not for the faint of heart" 2006-03-19
By J. Parker (San Diego CA)
I've used this mount since I moved into my house in 1990. It's a little ugly, but it has worked perfectly. Actually, I give the mount 4 stars. But, I have to average in the Black & Decker oven that fits it, and that brings it down to about 2 stars. They seem to last a few years, but I have had three literally go up in flames.

A couple of weeks ago, after it toasted some bread, I went into another room to eat. A few minutes later the smoke alarm went off. Although the control was shut off, the oven had shorted inside and continued to cook, until it was in flames. Once I unpluged it, the flames immediately died down to a small flame, but I had to use a wet towel to get it into the sink. The hood did completely protect my cabinet.

I have a small kitchen, and this is the only mountable toaster oven. I am actually considering another one! I just have be certain to check to see that it is off before leaving the house or going to bed, which I should do anyway.

This model of B&D toaster is not for the faint of heart. I believe it is likely to catch fire eventually, and if you panic, you might lose your house. (In fact, I think they have discontinued the mounts and this toaster.)
