 "cuisinart toaster oven" 2009-01-11
By Irene F. Gulla (orleans, ma)
I have only owned it for a few weeks and I give it a A. Everything that I have tried on it has worked to my perfection. It is very quiet and the defrost is fast. My toast and bagels toast evenly as long as you know what shade of toast you want. From all the toaster ovens I have owned, this one is the BEST.

 "Pass on this one" 2008-09-27
By Critical Eyes (USA)
This toaster oven has everything you think you want in a countertop appliance. Yes, it's a little big. But you overlook it based on the front interface and the convection.

Sadly, the cool-looking metal handle is too close to the glass. So while the heat is conducting through the oven to the handle, you end up brushing your knuckles against the door while opening it. Or well, I did. Several times... until I realized that one day my young son or some unsuspecting guest was going to try to make toast and end up burned.

Replaced this one with the Cuisinart TOB-50 Classic Toaster Oven Broiler, brushed stainless and black. And love it.

 "Great while it lasted" 2009-06-19
By N. Huebner (San Diego, CA USA)
Like many other reviewers, I was disappointed with the life span on this item. Having had (still have and still using) other Cuisinart products, I thought this would be a good investment to replace my 15-year old Delonghi toaster oven. It worked great, for the first few years, then started developing problems with the controls. Now, after only 4 years it is nothing more than an extreme fire hazard. The controls don't work unless you jiggle the knobs, and even then it randomly turns off or goes into broil mode (regardless of the settings). and the random beeping (more like a tortured shriek) is disconcerting at best.

 "Unreliable, Didn't Last." 2009-04-21
By MD Momma
We purchased this toaster oven three or four years ago. I agree that the exterior of this oven gets very hot to the touch when in use -- not safe with little ones in the house. The controls are imprecise, resulting in burned toast on the light setting sometimes, and barely browned on the same setting other times. Within a year of buying it, the front element went out, resulting in even more uneven heating. Finally, it shorted out altogether, and now, only a few years later, we're looking at replacing an expensive appliance, and I am not at all convinced that I should go with another Cuisinart.

"Good for 2-3 years, faulty beep alerts, heating coils on last legs" 2009-03-02
By nycshopper (New York, NY USA)
I have had this toaster for about 4 years. Worked great for about 2-3 years. Like others, the electronic alert either doesn't work at the end of a toasting cycle or will beep on its own when another electronic device in the house is on (the toaster electronics is VERY sensitive to voltage fluctuations). Finally, the heating coils starting wearing out after 2 years and now (4 years) don't get as hot as they used to. In other words, I used to set the toaster on "between light to medium" to toast bagels. Now I have to set it close to the darkest setting to obtain the same toast results.

 "It Totally Sucks" 2009-01-25
By S. Newton
Ours has always beeped at weird times, popped when it gets hot, and the fins on the side get in the way. Yesterday the light wouldn't shut off, wouldn't stop heating up, and each time the setting knob was changed it would go "ZZZZT" and release a small smoke cloud. Plugged it in the next day to check it out again and actually caught on fire. It's out of warranty of course, so I'm stuck with needing to get a new oven. Not Cuisinart.

 "Pretty Good overall" 2009-06-25
By George A. Rattner
We don't have any of the problems mentioned, it must be a quality control issue. If the timer doesn't work or the temperature knob is lose one should take it back and exchange it. The top and sides get hot but not as hot as the huge Kenmore, or the Kenmore Elite we tried last, or even the Krups. We are not concerned with perfect toast but we use it daily for cooking purposes and it works well for that purpose.

The only major limitation is that the vertical space is limited -a common problem- and using the grill in the lowest position will burn the bottom Another minor criticism is that nice big non stick pan warped [edit: it's now flat again] On the plus side it doesn't take much counter space. I just wish the interior was 1 to 2 inches taller.

 "Nice convection oven" 2009-05-14
By Kevin Courcey (Sarasota, FL)
We've had this for a week, and it does the usual jobs quite well. Bread at room temperature toasts perfectly; bread out of the freezer toasts perfectly. Even bagels out of the freezer come out just slightly browned on top and warm all the way through. The convection option works well, and seems to even out the whole process. A good, reliable toaster oven.

"Never should have received UL listing" 2009-02-22
By Zero Tolerance (San Jose, CA)
This is a piece of garbage. Straight from the box, the temp control knob had so much play you couldn't tell whether you were setting 450F or 300F. No indicator for pre-heat. Cheaply built (Chinese garbage). The surface of the unit gets as hot as the inside. May as well use it as a grill-top. Not safe and worthless. Amazon forces me to use at least one star to write a review, but it doesn't deserve it.

"Works Just Fine If You Bother To Read the Directions" 2009-02-09
By True North (Washington, DC)
This unit has received a bad rap on this site. It is possible to set timer for less than 20 minutes and it is possible make toast without burning it. Control knob is a bit stiff to begin with and the unit is not as intuitive as other models I've used, but if you bother to read the very brief directions you shouldn't have any trouble at all. As a matter of fact, this unit makes much better toast than other brands I have tried. It is also very handsome unit and looks good in a kitchen with stainless steel appliances. I can't speak to the broiler function because I really would never use a toaster oven to broil.

 "so far so good" 2009-02-04
By dhs (TX, USA)
Given the negative reviews of this product, I was a little reluctant to buy it. I saw it in a local store, and noticed that the timer dial, which others have complained about, appeared to have been changed. And it has - it's now a 30min timer, which is much easier to operate than the original version. The one thing I dislike about the oven is the temperature dial, which seems a little loose or imprecise. I did check the temperatures with an oven thermometer, and they're fairly accurate - a bit high at lower temperatures and vice versa. I also noticed that the top and sides get very hot, but all the ones I've used do this too.

Assuming that this holds up, I'd recommend the new version with the 30min timer.

 "4 slice MAX" 2008-11-07
By MyPenName (Pennsylvania)
The product description says "spacious" and that is just NOT true at all. The interior is very small. Can only use one rack at a time. Not worth the price at all. Can get a much bigger one for this price of $99.

I bought it on sale for $41.50 and while it looks good on the outside, the inside is way too small for my needs. I do not see how it is possible to get 6 slices of bread in there unless you would totally overlap all of them. Interior width (left to right) is about 11 inches, wall to wall. Depth (front to back) is about 9 inches. You have about 3 inches (top to bottom- plus you have to consider the heating coils on top take away from this measurement, decreasing cooking space) of space to actually use for your baking pan or tray with food on it, on the rack. The wording on the knobs and buttons on my unit were crooked. The instruction/recipe booklet is a total joke. There are no diagrams/pictures as to how to insert the trays and pans. There is 1 picture of the unit, so if you are unfamilar with toaster ovens, you would be lost. I have looked at many online and many instore, but have never owned one. While it may not seem like it would be hard to figure out how to insert the trays and pans, it is. There is the crumb tray, the drip pan, the baking tray and the rack. The only way I can figure out how to use the drip pan is to lay it directly onto the heating coils. To me, that doesn't sound right, but it is the only way it fits in there. And if you use that, you lose space for cooking. If you use the drip pan, then the rack sits crooked inside. You have to use the rack to use the bake pan. The rack sits crookedly or slanted no matter what, even if you only insert the rack, it is crooked. You can, of course, put the drip pan in the bake pan on the rack, which is maybe how you are supposed to do it. The instructions for use are lacking. This is just so totally not worth the price at all. For this price you can get the 3 tray counter top rotisserie/convection oven, which is what I originally wanted. The description leads you to believe you could bake a pie in here. Guess again. Not gonna happen. Unless it is a tiny pie and it had better not rise or you will be scraping off the roof of the interior. This was a bad purchase all the way around. I think the $99 price tag is grossly ridiculous for this thing. If you want to use it to make 2 slices of toast, and don't mind paying $99 to do so, then this is for you. If you have hopes of doing ANYTHING else, buy something else.

EDIT: Ok, I took a minute to go check, to be fair, and you can get 4 slices of bread in there if you squish them all into the bake pan that the unit comes with. No way in heck that you are getting 6 slices in there unless you put 2 slices on top of each other and then it will touch the top of the oven. And I used regular bread, nothing fancy or oversized. This thing is a mess and the product description is NOT accurate at all!

This purchase was very disappointing to me. I have been wanting a toaster oven for so long. I had my heart set on a particular one, but have been waiting on a sale. I decided to buy this one thinking I would use it til I got the one I wanted, eventually. I can't fathom keeping this even for the interim.

I am gonna upload pics, they might not be so good as I am using a 2mp cell phone cam. I don't think they show the crooked wording well or the slanted baking rack.

I hope this review helps someone in one way or another.

Needless to say, this thing is goin back.

"Where did the buttons go?" 2009-06-28
By Bolyengirl (Ohio)
I do love my toaster oven! The only reason I give it four stars is because the other model of the same toaster oven I had before this one (lasted 3yrs. used almost everyday, many times a day) had two buttons at the bottom instead of a dial. You could stop your toasting if you were finished. Now I have to wait till the little dial timer is done ticking. I mean I can get to my stuff and get it out, it's just the fact that it's still heating. Overall it does the job.

"There definitely seems to be a seitch issue" 2009-06-08
By Scott (washington, DC)
I have had the Cuisinart TOB-30BC for about 4 years. (it has a 3-yr warranty). The over is in great shape and I had no complaints. A few months ago, the unit started clicking when I would switch from to or away from the Bake function. It was apparently the switch because yesterday, the oven decided that it wouldn't shut off. The light turned off and the unit appeared to be off. A few hours later a noticed a smell from the kitchen and found that the over had been at 350 degrees for a few hours....very dangerous. I had a $150 cuisinart coffee maker crap out after a year as well. The reviews seem to indicate that Cuisinart is like a German car, built for performance, but reliability stinks.

"This toaster oven is junk...and dangerous" 2009-05-28
By C. D. G. (Whidbey Island, WA)
I bought this Cuisinart toaster oven because I've had a Cuisinart coffee maker for years and thought that another appliance by Cuisinart would be a good product. I used this toaster oven barely four months when the top heating element shorted out, causing a sparking and gray smoke to come out of the top vents. I continued to use it, but without the two top heating elements working it's basically useless. It's a piece of junk, totally abysmal quality. I will continue my search for a good quality toaster oven that's made in the USA (if anyone reading this review has any brand suggestions I would welcome them), and needless to say I wasted my money on a Cuisinart toaster oven. I didn't want to rate this with any stars, but Amazon insisted on a rating, so one star it is.

"Do not buy this toaster!!" 2009-04-28
By E. Tedford (Miami, FL, USA)
After reading all the reviews online, and realizing that there really isn't much selection when it comes to compact toaster ovens, I went on an purchased this locally (at a store with a 30 day no-questions-asked return period!). Initially I was pretty satisfied, though the toaster seemed to be burning everything on the top, but not heating up enough to cook things through (i.e., frozen garlic bread, small pizzas, etc.).

I thought maybe it was just a problem with the thermostat, or with the tray being too close to the top heating element, so I moved the rack and tray down to the lowest setting, and bought an oven thermometer. Still, at exactly the right temperature, the tops were getting burned, and the bottoms were still semi-frozen. I tried lowering temperatures and adjusting cooking times, but I couldn't even get a piece of toast to come out properly browned on both sides - one side, or part of one side, would be almost burnt, and the other side would still be soft and bready.

Also, the "dishwasher safe" pan is totally not dishwasher safe. I washed it once on a normal cycle and all the non-stick stuff washed off, leaving me with this nasty aluminum that wouldn't seem to clean. So, it didn't blow up or start a fire in my kitchen or anything, but after 2 weeks I've had more than enough.

**UPDATE** I ended up purchasing a Black & Decker TRO620 from my local Target store; I've had it for about 5 days so far and it seems to be perfect. Great toast, bagels, cookies, etc. Perfect!

"Times up for the toasters timer!" 2009-04-28
By M. Dibella (nj)
I mainly used this product for making toast and occasionally broiling. The timer on the toast function does not keep time anymore and basically every time someone tosses in a piece of toast it just burns it to smithereens. It seems not only did the timer time out...but the toast setting is stuck at dark and burns everything that goes into it. We owned it happily for a few years before this happened. (just enough time for the warranty to run out)(story of my life)...

So, if you are looking for a short term toaster commitment. This is the one! I myself am moving on to a new toaster that actually turns off! This one is freaking me out and forcing me to leave the fire extinguisher nearby while toasting some bread. NoT cOOL!

 "Superior small appliance" 2009-07-25
By jk202 (Oakland, CA United States)
Don't know if this model is still available, but I agree with other posters that this is a superior product. I hated our old DeLonghi and find this superior in every way. It's an excellent small oven - I do a lot of sear-roasting and this is much better than heating up a 4 cu.ft. range oven on a hot day, for two small steaks!

Biggest disadvantage: If you are toasting bread in successive batches, the preheating makes the oven shorten the toasting time. Sometimes you have to fiddle with the settings a little, but this is a very minor inconvenience.

 "Bakes great, Won't toast" 2009-03-28
By J. Brooking (NC USA)
I have had three of this defective product - original and two replacements. Each exhibited the same problem: would toast the top of the bread (or whatever) perfectly, and leave the bottom crisp, but white.

Oven functions well, good size. But if it won't toast, what good is it? Surely not worth the price. The last "customer service" dude at Cuisinart said maybe the manual was wrong and the tray that holds the bread for toasting should be down close to the bottom heating elements. That caused poor toasting on top and burning on the bottom. I am donating this turkey to a local charity and buying something that will toast bread or a sandwich! $200 down the drain. Thanks, Cuisinart!

"Still working great after 3 years" 2009-03-15

I have had my Cuisinart Toaster Oven for over 3 years now and use it almost every day. It works as good today as it did the day I got it. As a matter of fact, my regular gas oven has quit working and I have put off buying a new one since I rely on my toaster oven so much. Granted, I can't bake anything in large quantities but it's given me time to shop around to find exactly what I want. I would highly recommend this oven to a single person or small family who doesn't need to bake large amounts. It is one of the best purchases I have made and if it were to quit working I would not hesitate to buy a new one. It' just a great little oven ! As to comments about having to reset all the settings when the timer goes off and you need a longer cooking time - just push the timer button for however more minutes you need . Don't push the stop button. The minutes you enter will blink on the display for a couple seconds but then it will continue your baking for however many more minutes you entered.

It does a nice job toasting. For broiling, I find it takes longer than my old toaster oven, esp. when using frozen food, and doesn't brown too well.

I also find it odd that one is supposed to keep the oven open when broiling. It seems awfully wasteful. I haven't used it for baking.

 "Toasts great!" 2009-06-04
By marionette77 (Ithaca, NY)
Again I find myself wishing I could give a product more than one rating because this thing makes great toast. The shade adjuster is great. I'm picky about my toast's color. I found that when I had the tray inserted as pictured, the bottom of my toast burned. No problems since I've flipped the tray over. Wonderful english muffin pizzas come out of this thing too.

I'd give it 1 star for safety. Every single toaster I have ever had in my entire life has turned off immediately when the door was opened. This one does not. The heating bars inside stay red even when the door is opened. I've gotten used to hitting the "stop" button before opening the door.

"Too bad white is a premium color" 2009-02-24
By Bonnie (Potomac, MD)
After several recent short lived Black and Decker toaster oven experiences, we once again needed to replace our toaster oven. Our kitchen is white. I had no idea how this would influence my choice. I did my homework but in the end, a black toaster oven would look like a black hole on the counter. Altho I feel we paid a premium price for white, I am in general happy with the product. The rack is a little flimsy, it can easily fall right out of the toaster oven when removing the foil wrapped item if you're not careful. We had to get used to the fact that opening the door did not turn off the heating element. But it does the job-at least it has for the 6 wks we've owed it.

 "great toaster oven" 2008-11-10

This is a great toaster oven. It's doesn't have a timer, but the quality, ease of use, and a 3-year warranty makes up for it. Needless to say, it works flawlessly.

 "Disappointed" 2009-03-17
By CobraRed (NY, NY USA)
The unit worked OK for the first year. Toast is NOT it's strong suit as toasting is very uneven and the top toasting pattern seldom looks like the bottom. After about 8 months I had trouble getting the door to close completely, very annoying. Then about a month ago it lost all ability to control the degree of heat. No matter what setting it is on the unit defaults to FULL BLAST. First noticed when my smoke alarm went off after a bagel was incinerated beyond recognition!

Currently resides in my trash can......

 "A fine toaster oven" 2008-12-27
By KK (NJ, NJ USA)
This toaster oven works just fine. It's a good size and does not take up too much counter space. If it was just a little larger in height and had a timer, it would get 5 stars. The timer would certainly come in handy, but it's not an essential. One thing: I had to send the first one back because of a slight defect on the control panel (the label was partially missing for the Function knob.) Amazon sent me a new one right away. I believe the slight defect was overlooked by the manufacturer, and NOT caused by Amazon's packing and shipping, but I couldn't find a matching reason to explain this when I used Amazon's online return. The second toaster was packed even more thoroughly than the first, but again, I don't think the issue was with Amazon's packing, which was quite adequate. They made it right, right away.

 "Remodel" 2008-10-23

We purchased this toaster oven to use during our complete kitchen remodel. The laundry room was the make do kitchen area for longer than I would like to remember. To make life seem as normal as possible during this process I used this product almost daily from morning toast to even broiled chicken. The remodel is complete and the toaster oven has earned it's counter space and the stainless steel finish looks great next to my new appliances.
