"Fine convection oven and burner of toast" 2008-12-19
By Traveler (New England)
I've been using this "toaster" convection oven for well over a year now and can say without hesitation that this will NOT function well as a toaster. If you need a small oven to function as an oven this will work great. The convection function (air flow) helps with that.

Like all "toaster" ovens in this class, the problem is primarily the egg timer. That's all it is. It's a mechanical timer that has to be twisted enough to go through its full cycle (to zero and then ding). If you don't do that the oven shuts off and never reaches the end of the timer. Problem is, you end up burning your toast. A LOT. This toaster has sent more slices of bread to their grave than I can count.

My recommendation: Don't get ANY toaster oven unless it is an electric timer that precisely measures the cooking time. These egg timer models are worthless as toasters.

 "Worst "toaster" "oven" ever!" 2008-06-14
By Mia Kenig (Portland, OR)
About a couple of weeks after buying this toaster oven the convection fan started to rattle when in use. And not a low subtle rattle either - it was very loud. Then soon after, the door started to rattle due to the vibration the convection fan made when it rattled. I had to put a spoon in the door to at least prevent one of the noises while using the oven. The oven never really toasted at all and barely cooked very well. The elements never got red and so the broil never worked either. I couldn't wait to get rid of this toaster oven and now have a better one that actually functions.

 "Exceeded my expectations" 2006-03-13
By Greg Hall (Lafargeville, NY USA)
I have had this unit for 3 months and I would purchase another one. I wanted a toaster oven that would cook breaded chicken fritters like a deep fat frier (brown & crispy). This oven will do that.

1. Ignore the manual!

2. Place the crumb tray under the lower element and leave it there.

3. Use the deep pan as a grease catch in the lower slot. Cover with aluminum foil to ease clean up.

4. Use the grill on the top slot. Convection broil (400F) for the Chicken. Convection bake (400F)for baked hamburgers (great!). Convection broil (400F) for fish. Non-convection Broil for toasting sliced rolls. Convection Bake 1/4 pie Price Chopper Deluxe Supreme Self-Rising Pizza.

5. DO NOT EVEN TRY TO TOAST BREAD, IT BAKES THE TOAST, YUCK! I use a toaster if and when I want toast

 "DON'T BUY IT!" 2005-09-18
By Grandma 10 (Massachusetts)
I owned this product for only 3 months and all the heating elements died. The only thing that will work is the fan. I called the office (warranty) to have it replaced and I was going to have to pay to have it shipped to them to have it repaired and/or replaced. I don't think I should be responsible for paying for a product that lasts only 3 months and end up spending just as much money on shipping as I would to replace it! The company is not very helpful in resolving the problem. I will NEVER purchase another Euro-Pro again!

 "Had to Return" 2005-08-10
By R. Oxhorn (GRANADA HILLS, CA USA)
I bought this oven 3 weeks ago. After using it once, the door would not close so I exchanged it for the identical model. I had it for two weeks when the fan started rattling. Sometimes I wasn't even sure if the heating elements were working properly since I NEVER saw the bottom ones light up even though I tried various cooking settings. Also, the racks do not slide in and out easily which is annoying if you are dealing with hot food and you are struggling to pull out the rack. So, I have returned this item, once again, and have asked for my money back. I'm going to try Oster this time around. Maybe it will do the trick.

 "Good for Pizza Only" 2009-03-09

I purchased mine to replace a toaster and a old toaster oven. This unit does an excellent job at cooking or reheating pizza. It does not "Toast" very well. The bread comes out hard throughout but the outer surfaces never "brown" as it will in a normal toaster. I would not purchase this unit again and I do not recommmend it.

 "Euro-Pro TO31 digital conv. oven" 2009-02-07
By W. Reinel (Palm Bay, Fl)
On 1/11/09 I purchased the Euro-Pro TO31 digital conv. oven. Like other reviewers on several sites that I've since read opinions of this oven on, I too thought it was a really great oven, at first. Cosmetic look was great, lots of space inside, had lots of features. I thought I had it mastered pretty well, it baked & toasted great. On 2/5/09, less than a month later, I needed to use the broiler to brown some ribs, before baking. Broiling in one of these ovens is a useless procedure. The broiling temp. on this oven is suppossed to automatically be at 450. The top (broiling heat element) gets a little hot, but the bottom element gets fire red & instead of broiling, it's like frying from the heat from the bottom unit. No broiling from this oven! Also, please save yourself the dissaterous experience of calling their customer service tollfree ph # on front of manual to ask a question, & actually get some customer service. If anyone can ruin your day their cust. serv. reps. will be the ones to do it for ya. My rep. was from India, couldn't speak or understand English very well, & I got the total runaround & no help. If you have a problem, don't call them, not only did they want me pay to send this unit back to them for repairs & not replacement, they tried to sell me other items during my complaint phone call. Need I say more about this outfit ? I took it back to the store I purchased it from & got my money refunded.

 "Happy" 2008-11-23
By L. M. Dorris
I live in Phoenix, AZ and it gets really hot in the summer, about 115 degrees and above kind of hot. Year round I never use a traditional oven and seldom a stove top. A counter oven is a must. I have used them before but this is really a great one. It is huge inside. I can fit a 13" pizza pan it it. I bake medium sized pizzas,(not those cheap little ones.) pies, cookies, anything I want. It bakes quite well. I will be fixing my turkey breast in it for Thanksgiving. One has to learn how to use it just like anything else. I attached it to a power strip and use that to switch it on. There is no reason that it has to be on when I am not using it. The temp goes down to 210 that is low enough, if I wish to warm things up I nuke them that is why I have a microwave. I haven't toasted in it as I have a toaster. For the price with no sales tax or shipping I am happy with it. Looks great on the counter and uses very little space. The best part is I NEVER, EVER have to clean a huge nasty oven. It is definitely a good buy. Oh by the way I am not a doctor which has no bearing on a product review and most of the doctors I know aren't very bright anyway.

By C. Sullivan (San Francisco)
I bought this oven about a year ago and loved it for a few months. We mostly use it for baking pizza and muffins and it still works pretty well for that but the broil feature never worked--the top element is apparently broken--I didn't notice at first because the convection feature does still produces good heat and even baking. Can't make toast in it, since the top element is broken. As of a few days ago, the clock feature is now broken, too. I guess that is just as well since you're not supposed to leave the unit plugged in when you're not using it (Huh? so why put a clock feature on at all??) Over all, it seems like a poorly made machine that has been limping along just well enough for our purposes, but I would not recommend it and am currently thinking of upgrading to a new brand.

Euro-pro T021 You cannot use it at 450. It goes into E-2 and cannot get it to do any thing except set the clock. This happen to me before , but after sitting a day, it finally decided to work again. I made the sad mistake of forgetting that it does not like temps over 350. So now I will wait till tomorrow and hope it will work again. There is nothing in the manuel for any error codes.

 "EuroPro Convection Oven" 2008-01-03
By Cliff A. James (norfolk, va)
I purchase this item it was a bit larger than expected, take up too much counter top space. Overall the design and asthetic look is pleasing but controls are not quite user friendly. For instance if you are using this oven and select a function to change the temperature or time, you would have to shut the oven off and restart with the new settings.

"Best Toaster Oven Ever Purchased" 2007-11-17
By Janet (USA)
We've had it for over a year now. We use it everyday for baking and for toast. We've never had more perfect toast. We have a full-size convection oven as well and can attest to the baking-speed being similar to that of our full size convection oven. What we love most is the digital keypad is enclosed just like the ones on microwaves...No grease can get into cracks. The second feature our family love is that we can fit a pizza in there without any problems. When baking tall apple pies (or cakes) in it, I would recommend a lower oven temperature. Even though it has an adjustable rack which can be moved up or down, the heating element tends to be either too close to the top of the pie or too close to the bottom of the pie. Our old Delonghi brand toaster ($80 as well, but toast was never this good) had knobs on it which started to stick. We couldn't get the knobs unstuck even though we put a ton of lubricant on it. We're going to try to avoid toasters with knobs from now on. We've also seen keypad which are not fully enclosed. I can't imagine how people would be able to keep those clean to avoid blockage.

We bought this so we wouldn't have to heat the house up with the oven during the summer. WE LOVE THIS THING!

Yes, it does get hot on the outside. Be careful. But it can do everything that the big oven does.

Yes, there is a learning curve. We still haven't quiet mastered the convection cooking. We have cooked cakes, pizzas, chicken, etc in it.

LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT.

"Best Toaster Oven/Convection Oven on the Planet!" 2007-05-12
By Kathleen R. (Long Beach, California)
I saw this at a Target store but you can only buy them online from Target. You can get them through Amazon and I recommend that because Amazon has better customer service than Target.

I've baked chicken, broiled salmon, baked scones, cakes, and even dried fruit in this. The food comes out perfect every time.

I've been using this now for about a week and it's just like having a real oven. It bakes beautifully without heating up the whole kitchen like the oven does. It's sleek and looks nice on the counter.

I was going to buy a DeLonghi, but I recommend this. It's bigger, can do more, and you can't beat the price. This really is the best toaster oven/convection oven on the planet. Nobody does it better.

 "TERRIBLE!" 2008-03-09
By M&H (United States)
This is the worst toaster oven I have ever had or used for that matter!

The heating is completely uneven, the bottom of things burns while the top is raw and the back of the oven heats MUCH more than the front. The door does not close well. The timer has a ticking noise that you can't turn off and you can't put the timer for less than 10 minutes or it won't stay on.

"Cant' wait to get a different one" 2007-09-29
By A. Luce (Erie, PA)
While I agree with the previous review that this toaster oven is inexpensive and that the white color is very nice for blending with any kitchen, I am unhappy with the purchase.

The double rack and multiple trays are a pain to store and use, frankly. You can't open the bottom of the oven to get crumbs out and using the extra crumb tray is a pain, because it burns and it's hard to get in and out. And crumbs still fall below it anyway.

The timer is VERY unpredictable. It often gets stuck when it's under 10 minutes (which is a lot if you're toasting) and so your food burns if you're not right there.

More problematic is that if I want to run several cycles of toast, I can't. It seems that one is its limit. I would recommend using the "Stay on" button if you're doing multiple toasting cycles and just stand right there and watch your toast.

So all in all, I'm never buying another one. And I'm sort of hoping it dies soon so that I can get something else.

"Great value, good oven, decent toaster" 2007-07-17
By Frankland S. Strickland (Memphis, Tennessee)
The Euro-Pro, which I purchased around Christmas 2006, has been an excellent value for me. It can be found at several major retailers, and I paid less than $30 for mine at Best Buy. Now, if you're all about snob appeal (or a stainless steel chassis) then you'd probably do better buying a Kitchenaid toaster. Sure, you'll pay five times the price, but that's what you get when you desire snob appeal. Actually, you get more than that with the Kitchenaid, but my level of culinary expertise doesn't require the extra features of the higher-priced brands.

Let me extol the virtues of this oven point by point:

1. The Price: It's cheap. It's really cheap.

2. The Look: No, it doesn't have the flair of the stainless steel models, but its clean, white chassis is certainly not offensive.

3. The size: It's not too big, not too small. It doesn't dominate your limited countertop, but it's much roomier inside than similarly-priced models. The Durabrand competitor from Wal-Mart is miniscule compared to this one. Unlike other models at this price, there are two racks inside!

4. Ease of cleaning: I once had a small Black & Decker oven that had a little latch at the bottom that made the bottom swing open. It was an interesting idea, but not always practical. With this one, there is a sliding crumb tray. You simply slide it out and rinse it off. Then you return to its position and you're good to go. It fits very nicely and I've not had one crumb get past it and stick to the bottom of the oven.

5. Ease of operation: It's almost a no-brainer. You have a "bake," "broil," and "toast/pizza" setting. There is a temperature setting that ranges up to 450 degrees. There's a 60 minute timer (rotary dial). There's a red light to indicate that the power is "on." Nothing more, nothing less.

6. Performance: I'm certain that a $150 oven would do better. It had better do better! But if you're looking for a BASIC toaster/countertop oven, you're probably not going to find one better. It does exactly what it claims it will do: Bake, Broil, and Toast. Don't be misled by the "Pizza" setting though. It is really for a slice of pizza or one of those small, plate-sized pizzas. If you want to bake a 16-inch pizza, you're still going to rely on the "big" oven in your kitchen.

Of course, an oven this cheap isn't without a few blemishes as well.

1. The rotary timer doesn't seem to work too well for anything under five minutes.

2. Using the black baking tray on the "toast" setting (where the heat comes from above) will blacken/burn your food. Use this tray ONLY while in the "bake" mode. This isn't a fault of the oven, but many users will probably make the same mistake I did.

3. I burned some food in my oven and now I have an ugly brown haze around the door. I scrubbed a bit too hard with a solution of orange cleaner and a Brill-o pad. Now, I have an ugly brown haze with scratches!

Overall, this is a good oven. It would make a great gift (Christmas, housewarming, or wedding). I think it would be ideal in a dorm room or similarly-sized living arrangement. Now, aside from pizza bites and tater tots, you can also bake a chicken breast or broil a few chops too!

if you like making pan pizza from scratch, this is great. Also great for calzoni, stromboli, breakfast burritos, etc. If you are an inventive person, you'll find no end to cool things to try with this oven. Just make some dough in your bread machine, stuff it with left overs and Ragu sauce, and in 25 minutes you'll be wandering the back streets of Napoli. Wally sells 5 dollar teflon pans that fit perfectly,..you can get two of them in the oven at the same time. Say, baked potatoes on top, lasagna casserole on the bottom?

one thing I really like: no digital controls! my 1000 dollar whirlpool home oven is like programming the space shuttle, no one uses it, except for holiday turkeys.

"was ok while it lasted" 2009-03-03
By But, it's a humid heat/dry cold (Northern, IN)
I bought this oven 3 days ago, and used it 3 times, then the bottom plastic timer knob broke. It could still be used with a screwdriver in the slot where the knob was supposed to fit, but that didn't seem reasonable after 3 days of use.

The convection fan altered on and off, but I think it was supposed to do that. It would kick on/off when I turned the temp up or down. I did like the enclosed heating elements on the top and bottom. I looked at the B&D and visioned crumbs and cheese dripping on the little slots covering the elements and becoming a battleground of left over food growth vs burning off in a smokey curling puff of fumes. I never got to 'toast' but I didn't want one for that use. I just wanted to make some tater tots, roast veggies, grill salmon, bake a frozen pizza, and top off mac and cheese w/o using the big oven. I liked the black outer shell. It looked easier to keep clean than stainless steel. The handle was well placed, but shiny plastic. I returned it and bought an Oster convection (with stainless shell) b/c the only other in store choices did not hold a 12" pizza. I hope it lasts more than 3 days.

 "Decent Toaster Oven" 2009-08-25

The Black & Decker toaster oven that I've owned for at least a decade finally bit the dust, so I had to buy a new one. I loved my B&D toaster oven, and small ones that that are hard to find. I wanted another small one (most of the toaster ovens out now seem to be as large as full-size microwave ovens, and I'm not willing to sacrafice that much counter space), but I also hoped to find one that was slightly deeper so I could bake more things in it. My requirements were simple - just something that will toast bread and bagels and bake small frozen foods such as pizza and fries. Nothing fancy, therefore nothing expensive.

I needed to replace my broken one right away. After searching Macy's, JCPenney's, and Sears and finding very limited choices, I found myself at Target trying to choose between 2 B&D models and this Euro-Pro model, all between $30-35. The B&D ovens seemed so flimsy and cheap I was reluctant to buy one, but the only other "small" toaster oven was a brand (Euro-Pro) that I never heard of. It was taller than the B&D ovens but its footprint was about the same. I liked the way it looked, and it felt solid and well made. The removable crumb tray was also located in the front (another nice feature). So I came home and reviewed the comments here on the 3 models and read so many negative reviews about the B&D toaster ovens I decided to take a chance on the Euro-Pro, even though it lacked reviews.

I've had this for over a week and have used it several times, and it works fine for everything I tried. The toast comes out nice and evenly toasted, bagels and waffles toast fine, I baked a rice dish that came out fine that never would have fit in my old toaster oven. The frozen french fries I tried came out a little burned, even though I did not cook them as long as recommended. I don't broil so I haven't tried the broiler.

My only real complaint is with the timer/toast dial. To toast bread, you set the timer to a number - the larger the number the darker the toast. This timer is like an old-fashioned oven timer that you set to a time and it ticks as it counts down to zero and dings when it reaches zero. At this point it should shut off the toaster oven and your toast should be ready. There are several problems with this button. First of all, the button is all black and it doesn't have an arrow or dot on it, so you can't tell very well what time you are selecting. I got around this by painting a white dot on it with White-Out. Also, the dial shows the times in increments of 10 minutes with no tick marks in between, so you want a number that's not an increment of 10, you have to estimate it. Bagels toast well at around 4 minutes. Another problem is if you select a time < 5, it usually doesn't tick. If it doesn't tick, then it's not counting down and it will never reach zero and never shut off the oven automatically. To get around this, I usually just select a high number > 10, wait for it to start ticking, then move the timer back to the low number I want. Sometimes it stops ticking again and I have to repeat until this finally works. One time I was using the timer and it was ticking happily and then it just stopped midway through. Bottom line: You cannot rely on the timer and/or auto-shutoff to work. I always use the timer on my microwave oven as a backup so if the Euro-Pro's timer doesn't work, I can manually turn it off when the microwave timer beeps.

For the price, it's a decent toaster oven. It toasts; it bakes. If it breaks after a year, at least I didn't spend a lot of money on it ($34 at Target), and I'll have more time next time to research the other brands and possibly order one thru amazon.

 "Piece of junk" 2009-08-15

It sure is difficult to find a decent toaster oven these days.

I paid $35 for this Euro-Pro toaster oven TO140L six months ago. It is now inoperable and in the garbage. It has worked fine in the interim, other than the "toast" function never really did what it was supposed to do (i.e. make toast).

A few days ago the heating elements blazed bright orange without regard to the temperature setting, nearly starting a fire in the oven. Since then, the heating elements haven't worked at all - no warmth at any setting.

Under the 1-year warranty I have the option of shipping the oven back to the manufacturer for "repair or replacement", for which they will reimburse me $19 to cover shipping. I am not going through the hassle of this for a junky, unreliable $35 oven, and THEY KNOW IT. That's why they don't feel obligated to make a quality product. We all just keep buying new toaster ovens every six months!

The warranty instructions don't even include a shipping address for where to send the broken oven. I guess you need to call or check the website to get the address?? My secretary is on vacation this week and I don't have time for this 10-step process . . . so now I have a Black & Decker sitting on my kitchen counter and am hoping for the best.

 "Euro-Pro T0140L 6 slice Toaster oven" 2009-08-12

I am happy with the toaster oven that I got from Amazon. It was in good condition when it arrived. I pluged it in and it has worked good. I had a convection toaster oven before this and didnt use it very often. I am using this one just as much and it is doing just as good. I have cooked biscuits in it just to see if I can and they turned out fine. No problems with getting too hot or not staying together. Never heard of the brand before but I will give it four stars.

 "it works fine" 2009-07-23
By KayRivera (El Centro, CA United States)
Sure its hot on the outside, but so is a regular oven. That's just the "nature of the beast".

We purchased this one from Target on sale. You can make regular sized pizza in it (why we're sold on it).

I don't like the plastic front. It should be glass.

The controls aren't designed very well, kinda cheap. I manually wound down the timer dial & now sometimes the timer will just stop when it has 5-10 minutes left.

I don't need all the features I don't use grill, it doesn't really do anything. & I don't use the toast feature. Toasting bread & stuff on the stove-top griddle works easier.

 "burns toast - timer doesn't work" 2009-06-21
By C. Hendry (Riverside, CA USA)
Don't buy -- not even on sale! I agree with this reviewer who said -- If you make your toast some other way and need a backup oven, go for it. If you want a toaster that makes, uh, toast... Go elsewhere!

The timer doesn't work - you have to watch it constantly or it burns toast.

Also, after 8 months, the knobs are stripped and now we have to guess when setting the temp and function.

"I hate this thing SO MUCH...." 2009-01-19
By April Jean (Charlottesville, VA)
We got this at Target a few months ago. Our toast is ALWAYS burnt or undercooked as there is no way to set it to get it to toast the same way twice. You have to stand there and watch your toast/bagel/waffle/whatever like a HAWK and it's so annoying. We thought it would take us a little time to get used to the settings, but we'd figure it out...but we haven't. And we used it almost every day. If we had all the money for all the bread this thing has burned, we could have bought a top-of-the line toaster oven. I can't tell you how awful this thing is and how miserable it makes me.

"Takes FOREVER to toast! " 2008-09-27
By connie (towson, md)
If you have 45 minutes to wait for toast, then this is the toaster for you. Serioulsy, I have to put my toast in b/f I shower, then I shower, dry off...etc...get dressed, do my hair, do my make up, then go out and my toast is just about done! 45 minutes later! This thing is so slow and underpowered I could toast faster on my sidewalk in January. BTW I live in the north. I have 3 friends that have the same toaster and they all agree. DO NOT BUY THIS TOASTER!

 "POEWR ON" 2008-08-01
By Rice Delman (Chicago, IL)
That wasn't a typo, the power indicator on the front actually reads "POEWR". How did that make it past quality control?

When I asked for a toaster oven for Christmas, I specifically said "NOT EURO-PRO", but got this anyway. I felt like Eric Forman not asking for an eight-track player and getting one nonetheless...

Anyway, I suppose that this machine does what it's supposed to do, although it does get the kitchen very warm in the process and kinda feels junky. The only issue I have besides the POEWR light is the pan that came with it. It has a raised platform in the middle, which cuts it's usable surface area down to about the size of half a piece of bread. Why would they do that? It makes no sense. So instead of fitting a dozen wings in the pan, I can now fit three, otherwise they'll roll off the slant. Stupid. Great job Euro-Pro!
