"Glad I bought this one" 2008-05-15
By Wilda (Atlanta, GA)
I was a little leary of paying over $100 for a toaster oven, but I'd done a bit of research online, and liked what I'd read about this Krups FBC1. I'm SO glad I went ahead and got this. It works beautifully - heats up very quickly, easy to use, and all the functions (toaster, broiler, bake) work well. If you toast 4 or more slices at once, you may see a bit of steam emanate for a few seconds, but I think that's just from built up condensation. My kids use it to heat their after-school snacks, so you know it's easy to use. I like the 4-position rack system and the chart showing which level to put the rack at depending on what you're cooking and what method you're using. It's digital which makes it very easy to switch temperature and/or cooking time while it's in use. And it comes with a handy little utensil you can use to hook onto the rack and pull it out to retrieve your food. I wish it came in white, but that's a minor detail. I'm very happy with this purchase!

"Too much money for it to break on you" 2008-01-23

My husband bought this product becuase he thought Krups was a good name. He spent lots of money on it thinking it would last. Wrong! The springs broke on the door and it wouldn't stay shut, then it just stopped working. A lot of money for a piece of crap!

"Now this is more like it..." 2007-12-23
By Albert Taylor
I've owned a few toaster ovens over the years and this is a very well designed and just all around great toaster oven. Plenty of room and I like how it's easy to use, easy to set time and temperature. Heats up quickly and I like the dual, upper/lower heating method.

The default settings make it easy to get started. The toast feature makes it easy to either quickly make toast or just warm up frozen waffles. I use the default 4 for toast, 3 for frozen waffles, and 1 or 2 to warm up a biscuit or two. No more fumbling around with a dial to try and get it in between markings...

It has a longer than usual 90 minute timer and it shuts off automatically when it's done with five chimes, just great. Looks great too!

 "Nice toaster oven" 2007-11-01
By J. Kelly (Seattle, WA)
This is a nice toaster oven - it is roomy inside, the controls are easy to learn and use, and it heats evenly. It takes longer to toast bread than I would like, but overall it is nicer than other toaster ovens I have used. The instruction manual says to turn on the oven for 15 minutes to burn off any residue (the smell people complain about) before cooking any food. I did this, and had no subsequent problems with chemical odors.

"Outstanding, with only little room for improvement" 2007-08-17
By T. Kaiser
My fiancee laughs because I can't make a trip to the fridge without research. So graduating from a low-end B&D, I first came up with a short list of four toasterovens. After some more research and print-outs (waiters at our table quipping "are we in the market for a toaster oven?") we finally picked the FBC1, despite some hesitation on my fiancee's part if we really needed a kitchen device competing in size with our Isomac espresso maker (...well, close).

Resumee after one month's use:

+ oven heat-up time is neglegible, it's that fast

+ if you've worked in a restaurant kitchen, you've worked with a salamander. The Krups is probably as close as a consumer version gets, including quartz lamps and two broil settings. This thing cranks out serious heat when you need it

+ thermostat measures the temps inside the oven

+ swallows a 9x9 pyrex pan - I was baffled

+ good results as well in toaster-function

+ display illumination goes off after use, saving power (LCD itself stays on)

- measure your counter before you buy; it's not exactly petite (though not a hog either)

- an optional under-the-counter mount would be great

- controls are ok for digital, but take a few times to get used to. My pref (and the only improvement I'd suggest) would be digital settings controlled by turn-knobs.

Would we buy the FBC1 again if it took off into outer space? In a heartbeat, without any further research.

this unit looks cool. too ad it doesn't work very well. the top heating elements are exposed but the bottom ones are not, so the bottom does not toast as much as the top. there is no way to just preheat it without the timer running. the toast settings are inadaquate for toasting. don't buy this

 "Good for Pizza Only" 2009-03-09

I purchased mine to replace a toaster and a old toaster oven. This unit does an excellent job at cooking or reheating pizza. It does not "Toast" very well. The bread comes out hard throughout but the outer surfaces never "brown" as it will in a normal toaster. I would not purchase this unit again and I do not recommmend it.

 "Euro-Pro TO31 digital conv. oven" 2009-02-07
By W. Reinel (Palm Bay, Fl)
On 1/11/09 I purchased the Euro-Pro TO31 digital conv. oven. Like other reviewers on several sites that I've since read opinions of this oven on, I too thought it was a really great oven, at first. Cosmetic look was great, lots of space inside, had lots of features. I thought I had it mastered pretty well, it baked & toasted great. On 2/5/09, less than a month later, I needed to use the broiler to brown some ribs, before baking. Broiling in one of these ovens is a useless procedure. The broiling temp. on this oven is suppossed to automatically be at 450. The top (broiling heat element) gets a little hot, but the bottom element gets fire red & instead of broiling, it's like frying from the heat from the bottom unit. No broiling from this oven! Also, please save yourself the dissaterous experience of calling their customer service tollfree ph # on front of manual to ask a question, & actually get some customer service. If anyone can ruin your day their cust. serv. reps. will be the ones to do it for ya. My rep. was from India, couldn't speak or understand English very well, & I got the total runaround & no help. If you have a problem, don't call them, not only did they want me pay to send this unit back to them for repairs & not replacement, they tried to sell me other items during my complaint phone call. Need I say more about this outfit ? I took it back to the store I purchased it from & got my money refunded.

 "Happy" 2008-11-23
By L. M. Dorris
I live in Phoenix, AZ and it gets really hot in the summer, about 115 degrees and above kind of hot. Year round I never use a traditional oven and seldom a stove top. A counter oven is a must. I have used them before but this is really a great one. It is huge inside. I can fit a 13" pizza pan it it. I bake medium sized pizzas,(not those cheap little ones.) pies, cookies, anything I want. It bakes quite well. I will be fixing my turkey breast in it for Thanksgiving. One has to learn how to use it just like anything else. I attached it to a power strip and use that to switch it on. There is no reason that it has to be on when I am not using it. The temp goes down to 210 that is low enough, if I wish to warm things up I nuke them that is why I have a microwave. I haven't toasted in it as I have a toaster. For the price with no sales tax or shipping I am happy with it. Looks great on the counter and uses very little space. The best part is I NEVER, EVER have to clean a huge nasty oven. It is definitely a good buy. Oh by the way I am not a doctor which has no bearing on a product review and most of the doctors I know aren't very bright anyway.

 "not so much... " 2008-11-03
By C. Sullivan (San Francisco)
I bought this oven about a year ago and loved it for a few months. We mostly use it for baking pizza and muffins and it still works pretty well for that but the broil feature never worked--the top element is apparently broken--I didn't notice at first because the convection feature does still produces good heat and even baking. Can't make toast in it, since the top element is broken. As of a few days ago, the clock feature is now broken, too. I guess that is just as well since you're not supposed to leave the unit plugged in when you're not using it (Huh? so why put a clock feature on at all??) Over all, it seems like a poorly made machine that has been limping along just well enough for our purposes, but I would not recommend it and am currently thinking of upgrading to a new brand.

"Definitely does the job, and is versatile too." 2009-08-17
By Michael A. Fenichel
I read many reviews of toasters, and my own history has been an easy shopping buy in a local store in NY (combination drug store/sundries) - and it's been the same old brand (Proctor-Silex), and every 5 years or so I replace it when it times out.

Now I practiced what I preach and really hit the Internet reviews on toasters.

This seemed ideal, the only quibbles I read being related to not having an easy/silent pop-up/cancel/never-mind button. But this toaster has lots to spoil one on, and already after only a week or so (as an infrequent toast/bagel eater too), I have to say I am *very* impressed by 1) the build 2) the features 3) it's ability to be a good kitchen aide. (Is that it's name??)

I got it in plain-vanilla white, but it is lovely and a nice finish. For me the necessity was not having a deep shelf near the AC outlet, or space to turn a 4-slicer horizontally. So I went with this, though if I had the space, particularly to accommodate big slab/slices of whole-grained bread loaves, I'd get the longer one. Still I'm thrilled and optimistic, and pleased with having "upgraded".

What's new for me are the buttons. The bagel function really works well - tested it out with an everything, New York, H&H bagel. I was worried about burning or ignoring, having read a full range of reviews, but the default (12:00) setting was actually just a bit light for me, and I'm now at 3:00 for one-time medium browning. What I just realized, inspiring me to see if I could possibly add anything to a toaster endorsement, is that it is versatile, in addition to well-able to handle individual preferences for burnt-toasty or barely toast.

I just quickly defrosted a whole-grain roll, still rather cold (but thawed) and sliced off a 2" bit of it, with the inside assigned to be the "bagel" toasting. The "mission" was a nicely warmed, not quite toast multi-grain roll on which to put an hors d'oevre (sp?). Or cheese! It was delicious, I mean like a restaurant right out of the oven. Nice.

I tried the "warm/reheat" button once or twice, on similarly-tasked bagels and slabs of 7-grain bakery bread...haven't found the exact sweet note yet but am confident I will. Been fighting off computer crashes, bad phone machine, etc., but a toaster is really a nice & necessary thing to have as a "Kitchen Aid" - and this one, for me, is nice to look at and lives up to its name. As others have noted, it's a cinch to clean- the whole bottom pulling out from the back (of the 2-slice model). And as to aborting a toasting session, the handle pulls up quite easily if you've found the toast has had enough - and it hasn't once popped the toast or bagel or roll into the air by manually popping it up, either. Not close.

So I'm a happy camper. The bagel feature is nice. Individual taste will play with the default darkness settings, and I'm sure there are a few more combinations to try too.

Bottom line: it works, it's easy to clean, easy to use, easy on the eyes, versatile and reliable (that I've seen so far, myself). I'm very happy I went with this one.

KitchenAid KTT340WH 2-Slice, Two-Slot Digital Toaster with Bagel and Warm Functions, White

I agree with other reviewers who state that the toaster does not get toast dark enough. The manufacturer should heed the reviews because it is a good product otherwise: dependable and solid feeling. The "warm" function does a good job. It toasts brown bread well enough but on the very highest setting my English Muffin comes out heated enough but with no brown at all. A second toasting should be done manually because the muffin would very soon be too brown even on the lightest setting.

"COVER YER EARS..........AND YER HANDS!!!!!!!" 2009-07-12
By G. Watt (Pasadena,CA usa)
I pruchased this Krups 4-slice model to replace my old 2-sice B & D when my kitchen remodel was completed.

My new wall-oven is so huge I hesitate heating it up just for a pan of brownies. This toaster/oven is the perfect size for an 8 x 8 pan of brownies or whatever. In fact it will hold a whole 12" pizza.

However, there are a couple of things about the Krups that bug me:

1. The shrill electronic beeps (FIVE OF THEM!) when the oven is started & when it finishes are so loud that people walking by my house can tell when I'm making toast in the morning. (And FORGET ABOUT SNEAKING THAT LEFT-OVER SLICE OF PIZZA AT 2AM!)

2. The oven rack doesn't have a "stop thingy" like my wall oven to keep it from falling out onto the counter when I remove a baking pan. I've burned my hands more than once when this happens.

The Krups is a pretty good oven.... but not perfect.

UPDATE......BREAKING NEWS !!!!! (Well, it COULD HAVE MADE THE NEWS)

While making toast the other A.M. I toddled of to water the veg. garden & when I returned there were FLAMES INSIDE THE TOASTER!!!!!!

I was very brave....didn't panic....just unplugged the unit, carried it outside, & waited for the flames to die down.

It seems that S O M E O N E .......the sig. other I'm sure.....neglected to keep the crumb tray clean. Oh dear, please be careful. Stand there & WATCH the friggin' toast I guess.

Maybe I'll check amazon reviews for pop-up toasters. THEY don't catch fire.....DO THEY????????????????????

I'm gonna have to take back a couple of those STARS.

GO AHEAD & GET IT IF YOU WANT TO .......BUT BE PREPARED TO BABYSIT!!!

I don't cook big meals so I just needed something smaller. I love this convection toaster oven. It heats instantly and cooks evenly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the coating on the grill pan has already started to scratch after 5 uses. I didn't have any trouble with my appliance smoking with the first few uses. The directions stated to wipe the inside and outside of oven which I did. I don't have a problem with the door sticking. Also there is no need to use the door to move the appliance because there are handles on other side of the toaster oven. I am having to remember to reduce my cooking times because everything cooks quickly. I look forward to having it a long time.

"Great for a year, but then disappointed" 2009-07-20
By Retail Girl (California, USA)
I've had this oven for about 18 months. It has been great. Minor complaints about the top of casseroles getting too brown but I loved the fact that I can fit a large casserole dish in it. Another complaint is the handle is plastic and the paint started to wear off after one year of use. If you have large hands you might burn yourself when reaching over hand to grab the handle because your knucles will brush against the chrome at the top of the oven and this part does get hot.

Here comes the disappointment. After 18 months the top heating elements are no longer funtioning. I hate to think of another toaster oven in the landfill and really wish this would have performed longer. My husband is checking in to replacement parts, but it looks doubtful at this point. I think it will go to the recyle bin and I am now shopping on Amazon for a new toaster oven.

I just received my oven. Its great. I almost didn't buy this oven. The measurements are wrong. It is not nearly as large as advertised. It is about 19" wide and 12" high and 12" dept. I was pleasantly surprized because I didn't think it would fit under my cabinet because I have low cabinets but it fits perfect. I just love it so far. It does get hot on the outside but I can live with that. I think this is going to save me on my electric bill because I was useing my big oven every day.

I loved this toaster/convection oven until it just quit 2 days ago. We've had it just a little over a year with no problems. Used it every day for toast, bagels, mini pizzas etc. Was a big foot print, but that was fine. All of a sudden the controls went haywire and wouldn't start or anything. My husband called and talked to Oster and was told they don't make this model anymore and therefore no replacement parts either. So I'm very dissapointed and not encouraged by what's out there on the toaster oven front.

"Inconsistent, slow toasting & baking!" 2009-06-25
By M. Gallant (Alexandria, VA)
There are cheaper products that do a better job than this. I was disappointed in this product because Oster products usually are good.

There is one of these in my office and everyone agrees that it takes "forever" to toast bread (about 8 minutes) and the baking/broiling results are inconsistent. The bottom element seems to be hotter than the top one because toast is always browner on the bottom. We sometimes flip the bread over during the toast cycle in hopes of getting it consistently brown.

Krups high-speed quartz heating system takes masterful control of heat in the chamber. Each set of quartz heating element, both top and bottom, is alternately powered at the full 1600 watts to maximize the effect of radiant heat. The heat distribution is aided by a special reflective crumb tray that directs this important form of heat to all corners for excellent results. Convection heat, important for longer baking times, circulates heated air around the food for the best result in the fastest time. The defrost function uses the convection fan only and gently and evenly defrosts food without producing hot spots. This 6-slice toaster oven has temperature controls in 25 degree increments from 150-450 degrees, a digital timer from 1 minute to 90 minutes and an auto shut off after elapsed time. For toasting, it has 9 levels or browning with a countdown timer. Illuminated LCD control panel with easy to use controls and high quality soft touch buttons, it has a digital clock that displays when the cooking functions are not in use. The non-stick interior surface is durable and easy to clean. This unit includes a non-stick bake pan, broiling tray and thermal resistant tongs for safe removal of hot pans or food and comes with a 1-year warranty.

 "Best On The Market" 2009-08-02
By Christoph A. Koch (Burnsville, NC USA)
If you are worried about the price... Don't buy this. If you are worried about how much it costs to run it... Don't buy it. BUT, if you want the very best in toasting, baking, convection baking and broiling, BUY IT! I have not found better in 40 years! It is also the easiest to KEEP CLEAN that I have owned.

 "Fire Hazard" 2009-07-25
By W. Lofft (San Diego)
This toaster oven worked for a couple of years and then one day went dead. When I opened it up to a take a look I noticed the ground wire was burned to a crisp. I couldn't figure out if it had come dislodged and touched a hot wire or if there was a bigger problem. So I fixed the wiring and tried it again, but immediately the ground wire started smoking. I don't even want to know what could be causing it, it's going in the trash.

 "Another piece of Krups" 2009-07-24
By D. McNeice
We purchased this as a smaller, easier to use oven. We have had this unit for 6-8 months now. The buttons have started to be glitchy. When you hit the toast button, it toggles on and off a few times even though you are only depressing it once. Wont last much longer. We should have known better. Same "quality" as the coffee maker we purchased a few years ago. It lasted a year and was gone. Figured it was a fluke and purchased another. When it lasted about the same time we switched to Capresso. Have had that for 5+ years now. Kraps is the worst brand across the board I have had experience with. Will never buy another one of their products again. 3 time loser!

 "no more burnt food" 2009-07-18
By Stuart T. Pyburn (Pipe Creek, Texas)
I've had toaster ovens for years and was never pleased with the job they did baking. This one is great! Toast comes out perfect as I'd expect but I can pop in biscuits or any other small thing and it bakes them great! No more heating up a big oven for one or two small things.

I did have one problem. The first one i recived freaked out on me and had to be unplugged to be turned off during toasting twice. Macyes sent out a replacement ASAP and there have been no problems with the second one (stuff happens).

"We Use This Toaster Almost Every Day" 2009-07-14
By Kat (San Francisco, CA)
In 2006, my husband and I received the Krups Convection Toaster Oven as a Bridal Shower gift. Since we got married, we've used this oven practically every day. We've toasted waffles, bread, and danishes in it. We've baked chicken wings into crispy perfection. Baked Brie will forever be made in this oven as it fits one inside perfectly. This powerful little oven helped save us during a house party when our normal sized oven was full and we needed to heat up some last minute appetizers. While it does take a little longer than most toasters to toast breads and such, it does it with such precision that we've actually never burned anything in this oven. The auto-shut off feature also ensures that none of our meals are ever overcooked.

This fantastic little toaster has survived two moves and countless meals - I have nothing bad to say about this toaster and cannot recommend it highly enough! Highly recommended!
