"I have used this for years" 2009-05-27
By Linda L. Whitman (KU Jayhawk area)
I had the oven and mount and when it was dc'd had to find another (backup). It is perfect for toasting and reheating or as an extra small oven. Like it under the cupboard so I still have the counter top surface available.

 "frustration" 2007-01-15
By Barbara F. White
This item is useful only if you are able to find a toaster oven that works for it. ANd expect that search to be hard-- long, frustrating, and almost impossible.

Then try to mount the hood and connect the toaster oven without adequate instructions. It is again a huge and frustrating task. I had to use a dremel tool to take off two flanges that were in the way and no explanation for their use.

 "Wonderful!! " 2007-01-09
By S. Logan
I'm VERY bummed that they don't make the spacesaver toaster ovens anymore. We love ours so much that we bought one for a friend who was getting married and for my parents. They love it as much as we do. We all have our toaster ovens mounted over the counter so that the toaster oven can stay accessable.

 "Hood without an oven" 2006-04-23

I purchased the mounting hood for my father for Christmas. It is now 4 months later and we cannot find a B&D oven to fit it. The hood will only fit models TRO1000 - TRO4000 but they cannot be found anywhere. The hood is useless without the oven

 "worked good--while it worked" 2009-10-11
By J. Romano (Louisville, KY)
When this product worked, it worked really well. The heating element went out after about 8 months. I tried to call B&D, but was told it was out of warranty because I could not prove the purchase date (it was a gift, I didn't have a receipt.)

It cooked evenly and browned nicely, and it did get nice & hot. But it should have lasted a LOT LONGER!

"Very nice oven, good features" 2008-06-12
By M. Serrao (Plano, TX United States)
I've only had this oven about a week. So I can't review it's long lasting ability. But, the main reasons I bought this oven are important to me and maybe others.

Most Important Feature: It has a timer feature which shuts the oven off when it reaches the time you set. So if you want it to run 10 minutes to warm something, and you leave the room and forget about the item, it will turn the oven off and not burn the item or your house down. We really need this feature in our house as many items have been forgotten over time and this feature in my last Black and Decker oven was essential and we had to have it again on any new oven we would buy.

It's very large, so be sure you have room for it. But it's size is nice for two people to cook small dinners without having to run the large regular ovens. Can fit a 12" pizza.

It has two bumpers on the back so it doesn't hit the wall when you put things in or adjust the knobs. And it has nice soft rubber feet so it doesn't scratch the counter top.

Runs very hot so adjust the temp down about 50 degrees.

Toasts well. Has a two position rack holder and an easily removed crumb tray.

This is my third Black and Decker oven and both of my former ones lasted about 10 years. But for the price I paid for this one ($50), if it lasts even 5 I'll be happy.

 "Good while markings last" 2008-05-28
By GafferGirl (Charlotte, NC)
Love the product, while the markings lasted. Only had it about 9 months and all of the markings (temperature, time, toast level) have worn off rendering the product unusable. Have contacted B&D about the issue and they just continue to ask me for Model #, Date of Purchase and proof of purchase over and over again.

"Nowhere near worth the money they charge for it. " 2008-02-27
By Sheryl Marcy (Glenside, PA USA)
This toaster oven didn't last long enough to deserve a review. I'm done with Black & Decker. Their toaster ovens (and this is not my first B&D) are a waste of time, space, and money. Mine lasted 18 months. The toaster went first, then the oven. Not even worth getting it fixed. Black & Decker needs to evaluate their products before they rip off other comsumers. Disgraceful!

 "Very good product" 2009-06-02
By K. Howerton (Joplin,MO USA)
This machine does so much more than what I thought. I havent really used it a whole lot since I bought it but I have. Burnt chicken in it a few times so you really have to mess with the time cook. But other than that its great. You can bake a cake in it and sooo much more. I would tell anyone that is looking for a toaster oven to buy one of these.

 "Speed cooking" 2009-04-30
By Candace Smith (Miami, Fl)
I love this toaster oven. I love it so much, this is my second one. Yes, I believe I wore the last one out but only the control switch~maybe B&D should make replacements for that but they

don't. So why the hype? Pre-heating, gone. Hot house, gone. Waiting to eat after long work day, gone & the biggy, electric bill, lowered!!! If you're a family of one or two, you dont need a conventional oven again. If your family is bigger, you need to cook infra red to save time. Just use the conversion setting, add a couple minutes for good measure and you're ready to eat in half the cooking time. This oven is very versatile & easy to use. It's my latest 'must have' to an easier life!

"Great little oven if you understand how to use it." 2009-02-19
By Hugh (Huntington Beach, CA)
I also have the FC150R and it looks identical to this. Paid $70 locally.

If you think this will replace your oven or your microwave, you're wrong. It will replace your toaster oven. It does one heck of a job of that, though.

I've found that cooking frozen meat items in this thing sometimes leads to burning the tops. I'm trying to learn the settings better and hopefully will adjust for this in the future. Otherwise I've read covering with aluminum foil will prevent the IR waves from burning the top. It's a new way of cooking, so you have to learn how to work with it.

Anything I've cooked that was defrosted cooked up nicely. Thorough heating, crispy or browned outside.

The advertising will tell you its the next great thing and you don't need an oven anymore. Well, not so much. I still use my regular oven to bake things. I use a Microwave/Convection Oven combo to cook frozen foods, etc... (convection is perfect for those) We bought this to replace our ailing toaster oven. Seems like these days they fall into this price range, anyway. This one had better features than the rest.

This oven heats up immediately and cooks FAST. Once you learn how to work it right, it is wonderful. Be prepared to burn some stuff in the beginning. If you keep in mind it will act like a toaster oven on steroids, you'll be fine.

Boy was I wrong, It burns everything. I am so disappointed. I don't know whether to continue to try to figure out what I am doing wrong or just send it back.It should be easy to use[thats what the cd says] but it isn't. I'm sorry I wouldn't recommend this oven to anyone. We spent to much money on this oven for it not to work

The stainless infrawave oven I recently purchased looks exactly like this one but the model number is FC150R.

Model FC150R works great. I use it for everything from toast to re-heating to baking and broiling. If you are only a family of two, you won't need to use a large oven again. I only use my large oven for keeping foods warm. Model FC150R is fast, efficient, and fun to use.

"Great until it stops working" 2009-06-07
By C. Phipps (FL)
I used this for a few years for toasting and baking without complaint. Then, like the other reviewers of this product, it simply stopped baking all together. The toasting feature still works, but I rarely used it for that. It's now junk and will need to be replaced.

"We've had it for 3 years and it works perfecly!" 2009-03-18
By A. Ayers (Ft. Worth, TX)
We really like this toaster oven and have used it successfully for over 3 years. I will admit that we do not use it for toasting bread, it simply takes too long because of it's size. But I use it multiple times every day for cooking and warming food. Since we do not use a microwave due to the research that I have read about it causing cancer, this oven is indispensable to me. I don't like to turn on the big oven unless I really need to, and this little one is perfect for most jobs.

 "Avoid this oven" 2009-02-18
By T. Axam
We received this oven as a gift to replace a smaller older B&D toaster oven. We wish we had never made the switch. This oven heats inconsistently-- sometimes it gets very hot and sometimes it doesn't seem to be hot at all. When it does get itself going, it cooks unevenly, burning everything placed in the rear. It cools down quickly, but puts out a good amount of heat on all sides while cooking, and sometimes it feels hotter outside than in. Last night I put a piece of apple pie in the oven in a piece of foil and it took 30 minutes at the 300 degree setting to get to lukewarm. Save your money and look for something else.

 "Don't buy this" 2009-01-24
By Kim (Chapel Hill, NC)
I loved this thing when I first bought it, but I should have read the other reviews because the are 100% correct. It toast unevenly but I accepted that. What I don't accept is the oven function not working anymore so now it just works as a toaster. What a piece of junk.

 "Stay Away....Far, Far Away!" 2009-01-02
By BMB (Chicago, IL)
We've had this toast-r-oven for about 2.5 years. It worked fine for approximately 6 months until the oven feature conked out. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence. The toaster function is still working fine, but at nearly 18 inches wide, this monstrosity is much to large (not to mention sloooow) to function solely as bread toaster. Plus it requires that the bread be flipped frequently for even browning. The timer makes a super loud and annoying ticking sound. (Though we don't have pets of our own, we can't use the toaster when dog-sitting because it drives the visiting canines bonkers.) The only reason I put up with it for so long is that I've been too poor and too lazy to purchase a replacement. We're currently searching for a new toast-r-oven and it likely won't be a Black & Decker.

 "Disappointing" 2009-10-12
By Virginia Butkowski
I bought this oven a little over a year ago and the oven portion just stopped working. The first one I bought was burning things and thought it was just a fluke, so I exchanged it for the same one. That was a mistake. It also takes forever to toast things. How can companies justify selling a product with only a 1 year warranty!! Cuisinart has 3 year warranties on their toaster ovens and great ratings.

"FIRE HAZARD DO NOT BUY" 2009-07-24

Do not buy this toaster oven. The way you turn off the oven is to crank the timer dial over to 0. However, if you accidentally crank it past 0, the oven stays on forever. It was on all night last night, and we're lucky it didn't burn down the house.

 "Works fine for me!" 2009-06-12
By Red Branch (Florida)
This is the 2nd time I've purchased this large toaster oven, now only necessary after 5 years of almost daily use of my first one. No, I do not use it for toast as that's not it's best feature due its large size, but I do use it as a subsitute for cooking in my full size oven for smaller meals and leftovers. Pizza, baked chicken & fish, are handled very well. It's a very good option for a kitchen or cook who likes options.

"Worked for a year and a half then died" 2009-05-26
By Disney_Fanatic (Canton, GA)
I loved this toaster for the first year of it's life. Then about 6 months ago I started having problems with the controls. They wouldn't always respond and got tempermental. They would only work when they felt like it. I called customer service and they will send me out a new unit but I have to pay for postage. Still though, it's better than having to buy a brand new toaster. But if I had to do it all again, I would have just bought a different more reliable toaster oven.

*****UPDATE*****I received my replacement oven and it is so much better. They sent me the newer model CTO6301. It is digital and has so many more functions than this outdated model. I've only used it a few times but I love it. I will update again in a few months.

 "LASTED ONLY 3 YEARS" 2009-05-17
By Wilfred Destang (Miami, Florida United States)
I bought the B & Decker toaster oven because of its large size. Like other reviewers I did not like the way the tray came out so easily. This is a definite hazard. Also the little digital selection knobs started cracking after only 2 years. They are made of flimsy plastic.

In addition each time you open the door you must press start to resume cooking or get an annoying beep every few seconds. Finally after only 3 years of moderate use it malfunctioned and is now in some garbage dump. BUY THIS ONLY IF IT'S DIRT CHEAP!!!

We paid nearly 60.00 for this item and it lasted just over a year. The "Start" button malfunctioned and would not stay on. Because we had misplaced our receipt -- Black & Decker would not do anything for us. Be very careful of this model. I believe the touch panel to be a flaw in this product.

 "A joke" 2006-07-16
By themblues (CA)
This "oven" is a joke. Along with the other reviewers I have all the same complaints. Not insulating the walls of a $100 unit is a joke. The buttons are so hard to push I actually have to put the back against the wall as the only way to keep it from sliding back when I press them. No stop on the slide out rack? Would have taken 5 WHOLE minutes to borrow that design from a regular oven. One reviewer stated this unit recalls "last use" info. This would be great, but it's not on mine. No changing the timer after you press start, so you have to reprogram everything AGAIN if you want to change it. The thing that frustrates me most about this unit is the cooking timer starts directly after the 10 minute warm up period. So that if you are not in the room, you lose that cooking time forcing you reprogram. This is stupid because you A) haven't put the food in yet and B) you have to press start every time you open and close the door anyway. The convection works okay (other than burning food on the side closest to the fan) But they don't tell you you have to cut stated cooking times by about 1/3.

This is just a slapped together unit buyers as the testers instead of any real R&D.

 "Ugh" 2006-06-02
By Christine M. Dohm (North Carolina, United States)
I have been buying Black & Decker toaster ovens for years. This one seemed to be the ultimate -- digital, convection option, large capacity, black to match my kitchen. I use my toaster oven as a true second oven and really wanted something nice.

It's a very expensive piece of junk, basically.

1. If you pull out the rack more than 1/3 of the way, it falls forward. Fun.

2. You can't set the temperature above 400 degrees. French fries and most frozen meals expect at least 425.

3. I have yet to use the convection feature without burning my food to a crisp. There is some secret to using the convection that I am not aware of.

4. To push any of the buttons, you have to hold the other side of the oven so it won't move. I plan to look for something heat-proof and slide-proof that I can put under the oven to prevent this, as it's a real hassle when the oven is hot.

There are some good points, but to be honest I have no desire to list them, given how negative the bad points are to me.

As I paid a considerable amount of money for this, I feel obligated to stick with it until it dies. Thanks, Black & Decker.

We purchased this product to supplement our regular oven. We normally cook one or two biscuits every morning and thought we could save time and energy having a counter top oven. The instructions stated that it would require less time to cook and a lower temp...not so! It took 25-30 minuites to cook two biscuits at the usual temp (on our conventional oven) of 450 degrees. Also the trays tip downward when you pull them out. We are going to return this unit immediately. We have bought Black & Decker products for all our lives, but this unit falls far below our expectations.

 "This caught on fire!" 2008-06-04
By Brumbe (Annapolis, MD United States)
This is not a review that the numbers are too small, there is no light, I do not like the beeping. Other than a small fire, I LOVED this toaster oven, but it is hard to get over flames in your kitchen.

While I have had B&D toasters for over 15 years, I was shocked to be standing in my kitchen while I watched the top heat element spark and flame up while making dinner. I use this toaster oven on a regular basis for baking and broiling and have had no problems for nine months. When I was six minutes into broiling a steak (one of the main uses), it started to spark and at seven minutes it broke out into flames that did not decrease when the unit was unplugged.

My mother also owns the unit and uses this more than the stove. The day before my fire, her unit would not work unless the timer and temperature were both on (had not happened before). I find it odd that two toasters in two states would break in the same weekend.

 "FIRESTARTER!" 2008-03-10
By R. Cohen (Orlando, FL)
We were reasonably happy with this toaster oven; although it didn't toast well or evenly, the glass gets very dirty, it gets very hot and the heating element coils catch on fire frequently. We were willing to settle for this less than stellar functionality until this morning when toasting some hash brown patties. All of a sudden there were sparks flying out of either end of the toaster oven (literally sparks of fire shooting all over the kitchen counter and toward me) and then before you know it the unit was on fire inside. Thankfully we were able to unplug it before there was any real damage; no damaged kitchen cabinets and no kitchen fire - but if we had left the kitchen for a minute, our kitchen could have caught on fire. This is the second TRO651 that we purchased, and the second one to bite the dust! I will definitely buy another toaster oven, but I will definitely NOT buy another Black and Decker.

 "Disappointing Product" 2007-09-09
By K. Miller
Black & Decker makes pretty good light-use power tools so I figured this oven would do the trick too. Not so. The "convection" fan, which didn't noticeably improve cooking from the start, ceased operation after about 10 uses and after about 3mos. the toaster function quit. This was not from high volume use - we're talking one person using it about 2-3 times/week and mostly on toaster setting. The only way is works now is on "oven" setting. This product is weak for the $50-plus price tag.

Customer Buzz
 "Poor Construction" 2007-05-05
By C3inNJ (New Jersey, USA)
I had numerous problems with this Toast-R-Oven. I've only had it slightly over a year and I am now junking it and looking for a new one by a new brand.

Within about one month, the oven temp dials popped off, and continued to do so each time I used the toaster. The handle to the glass door came loose next and must be reattached each time or I will burn my fingers. The coils are placed in such a way that it overcooks near the front of the oven, but not enough in the middle. Toast is ALWAYS inconsistent, sometimes burnt on the ends but not toasted in the middle. It Never toasted evenly on both sides. Any attempts at baking result in the same problems.

On the plus side, I did not have some of the other problems often seen with toaster ovens. The timer turns off automatically when I open the door. It was a simple chirp that could be heard but not too loud. I liked having the crumb tray pull out from the front. And the coil protetion was helpful for dripping pizza and such.

Considering the price of this toaster oven and the problems I have had, there are others that are much cheaper which I am sure would do a much better job.

but just rotate the rack and it ok.

Had this toaster oven about a year and the top elements don't work anymore and so I can't toast. I don't recommend this oven. It has an annoying hyperactive tick as it toasts, and it never really did a great job with toasting - I should get a real toaster - it did a fair job baking although hard to know what the real temperature is as the dials are not particularly accurate. I have decided that for my needs, my gas oven does a great job baking and broiling, and so I am going to get a real toaster as that is what I used this device for the most.

"The Markings & Numbers Wore Off With Cleaning" 2007-03-08
By P. Land (USA)
I had this oven for about six months and the numbers and markings wore off with cleaning. I am not a compulsive cleaner and probably only cleaned it once every two or three weeks.

B&D replaced the oven with another one when I called them and mailed them the end of the electrical cord and an additional $7.50. They didn't have a white one so they sent black. It has been about six months now and again the numbers and markings are wearing off the second one.

They are sending me another oven, as soon as I send the the cord end and a letter statng the problem. They also wanted me to send another $7.50 but waived the fee when I said I would not give them more money.

They suggested that what I use to clean the toaster ovens was too harsh. I use the same thing on every appliance in the kitchen and this is the only one to lose the markings.

 "A Solid Little Oven" 2006-12-29

This is a great little toaster oven! Heats up pretty fast and even, toasts pretty even & not too slow (about 3 - 4 minutes for medium) and broils such things as fish sticks and chicken nuggets quick and crispy. And unlike MANY toaster ovens, the door closes tight. Love the removable crumb tray and adjustable rack. My last oven was a B&D and it lasted 12 years. In reading many toaster oven reviews I am amazed at the number of people that really don't understand what a toaster oven is for. It's pretty simple. If you want fast toast, get a toaster. If you want to bake great, use a large oven. Toaster ovens are for those in between jobs. And this one has performed great for the last 4 months.

 "Not so good......" 2006-09-03

My old Black and Decker toaster oven died after 5 years (shouldn't they last longer!?) but we liked it ok so I went to find another. I bought this newer model hoping for similar performance and a longer lifespan, but I am sad to say that we'll never find out about the lifespan because we returned it after just 3 weeks. Like so many of the reviews I've read for other ovens, it baked ok, but toasted unevenly. It has two rack levels, but one is too high and the other too low for toasting. Also, the timer ticks so loudly that it is an annoyance. Where oh where is the quality, Black and Decker????

I would look elsewhere, this is not well designed.
