 "Great Toaster!" 2009-09-12
By Stephan L. Marsh (Makanda, IL. United States)
The title says it all. It is a great toaster. The exterior remains cool when in use. I have never burned anything with this toaster. Easy to clean and looks great in my kitchen with my other Kitchen Aid products.

"Definitely does the job, and is versatile too." 2009-08-17
By Michael A. Fenichel
I read many reviews of toasters, and my own history has been an easy shopping buy in a local store in NY (combination drug store/sundries) - and it's been the same old brand (Proctor-Silex), and every 5 years or so I replace it when it times out.

Now I practiced what I preach and really hit the Internet reviews on toasters.

This seemed ideal, the only quibbles I read being related to not having an easy/silent pop-up/cancel/never-mind button. But this toaster has lots to spoil one on, and already after only a week or so (as an infrequent toast/bagel eater too), I have to say I am *very* impressed by 1) the build 2) the features 3) it's ability to be a good kitchen aide. (Is that it's name??)

I got it in plain-vanilla white, but it is lovely and a nice finish. For me the necessity was not having a deep shelf near the AC outlet, or space to turn a 4-slicer horizontally. So I went with this, though if I had the space, particularly to accommodate big slab/slices of whole-grained bread loaves, I'd get the longer one. Still I'm thrilled and optimistic, and pleased with having "upgraded".

What's new for me are the buttons. The bagel function really works well - tested it out with an everything, New York, H&H bagel. I was worried about burning or ignoring, having read a full range of reviews, but the default (12:00) setting was actually just a bit light for me, and I'm now at 3:00 for one-time medium browning. What I just realized, inspiring me to see if I could possibly add anything to a toaster endorsement, is that it is versatile, in addition to well-able to handle individual preferences for burnt-toasty or barely toast.

I just quickly defrosted a whole-grain roll, still rather cold (but thawed) and sliced off a 2" bit of it, with the inside assigned to be the "bagel" toasting. The "mission" was a nicely warmed, not quite toast multi-grain roll on which to put an hors d'oevre (sp?). Or cheese! It was delicious, I mean like a restaurant right out of the oven. Nice.

I tried the "warm/reheat" button once or twice, on similarly-tasked bagels and slabs of 7-grain bakery bread...haven't found the exact sweet note yet but am confident I will. Been fighting off computer crashes, bad phone machine, etc., but a toaster is really a nice & necessary thing to have as a "Kitchen Aid" - and this one, for me, is nice to look at and lives up to its name. As others have noted, it's a cinch to clean- the whole bottom pulling out from the back (of the 2-slice model). And as to aborting a toasting session, the handle pulls up quite easily if you've found the toast has had enough - and it hasn't once popped the toast or bagel or roll into the air by manually popping it up, either. Not close.

So I'm a happy camper. The bagel feature is nice. Individual taste will play with the default darkness settings, and I'm sure there are a few more combinations to try too.

Bottom line: it works, it's easy to clean, easy to use, easy on the eyes, versatile and reliable (that I've seen so far, myself). I'm very happy I went with this one.

Super toaster. No more burnt bagels. Despite some reports to the contrary, works well on toast also.

KitchenAid KTT340WH 2-Slice, Two-Slot Digital Toaster with Bagel and Warm Functions, White

I agree with other reviewers who state that the toaster does not get toast dark enough. The manufacturer should heed the reviews because it is a good product otherwise: dependable and solid feeling. The "warm" function does a good job. It toasts brown bread well enough but on the very highest setting my English Muffin comes out heated enough but with no brown at all. A second toasting should be done manually because the muffin would very soon be too brown even on the lightest setting.
