 "Timer trouble" 2009-08-09
By K. Rudolph
I received this toaster as a gift. The very first time I used it the timer malfunctioned and kept resetting to Off. About a week of use and the timer will almost never 'catch' and stay at the desired time. When I can get the timer to catch, it will often reset past off to KEEP ON after about 30 seconds of use. This is incredibly dangerous as it can cause a fire if you don't happen to hear the ding as the timer flies past Off and lands on STAY ON.

 "Very disappointing product" 2009-08-02
By regular customer (San Jose, CA United States)
I wanted a basic but reliable toaster oven. An older Black and Decker version we loved finally gave in and I purchased this one after reading one positive review. I absolutely hate this oven. The timer slips and stops clicking but does not turn the over off. It is a fire hazard. A few times the oven kept toasting and I finally noticed the smoke and burning smell. I usually use the "light" or "medium" setting but one of us has to literally stand next to the oven while toasting to manually turn it off. I wish I returned it right away.

"Starts off a 5 star, ends as a zero star!" 2009-07-29
By A. E. Berigtold (Baltimore, MD)
We got the black version of this oven. It worked great for the first two years. Then it just started to die a slow death. First the timer knob stopped working- it'd just spin freely, not gripping anything. Then the same thing happened with the oven temperature knob. At that point, the only way to use it was to flip both knobs around in various random combinations until both were "on"- you'd never know when this would be, if ever. Fun. Then, the toast knob stopped working 99% of the time. It's sad because it seemed like a good little oven for the money, but it was clearly not built to last, just built to last until you lost your proof of purchase, like so many other things these days. My previous black and decker toaster oven lasted the 15 years from college to first child, so I was pretty disappointed in this one!

 "Just right" 2009-07-15
By J. Lorimer
When our toaster oven of many years died, I started looking at the reviews for a new toaster oven. I choose this one becaue it had among the best reviews and the drawbacks seemed minor. So right!!

The oven is a reasonable size to have on a countertop. The toaster settings, supposedly one of the drawbacks, give lots of choice. It both warms and bakes beautifully -- without heating up the whole kitchen. The whole family is delighted with this product -- must be one of the best.

 "better than the original" 2009-07-31
By Gary Gale (crown point, in)
Back in the 60's, my folks bought one of the original toaster ovens. It had slots on the top, oven on the bottom. Since then, makers have designed the toaster part into the oven part. Now, this one separates the two funtions once again. Thank you, Hamilton Beach. This is a beautiful working and looking unit, that does both jobs very well. Controls are easy to use, all functions work just right. Seems much better quality than our old Black and Decker.

 "Finally - a decent-sized toaster oven!!" 2009-07-15
By Mari (Colorado Springs, CO United States)
I've been looking for months for a toaster oven that that is large enough to cook a small frozen pizza. It seems for the last few years that most toaster oven cooking pans have shrunk to an almost useless size. We've found that most "toaster ovens" with a larger cooking area inside are countertop convection ovens. We tried one. Our last "toaster" oven was an Oster Countertop Convection Oven. It was supposed to toast and bake. The only thing it did well was burn stuff and it definitely didn't toast well! I searched for several months until I found the "4-slice" version of the Hamilton Beach Toastation. The cooking pan is huge compared to other "toaster" ovens on the market. We've only had it a little over a month, but so far, we are really pleased with our HB Toastation. The knobs are sturdy and operation is easy. I had to order it online because I couldn't find it in a store. The shipping from Amazon was free so that helped. It arrived within a week and we've been happily using it since.

I bought this for my mom for Mother's Day and she LOVES it. Both the toaster and the oven work fine--no problems. My mom was so excited about this that she bought another one as a bridal shower gift a few weeks later. Just make sure you buy the 4-slice model--the 2slice one is really small. Glad I got the bigger one.

 "Bad Design" 2009-07-09
By N. Frees (CA United States)
I thought this was a great idea when I bought it: toaster plus oven, but it doesn't do either well. The toaster cannot accomodate very big slices, because it's constrained by the oven tray. The oven area is insanely small and thus burns food. Also, because of the toaster feature, you cannot broil anything in the oven. This product looks sleak, but it just doesn't cook well. Save your money.

I've spent the same amount on a movie ticket and been less entertained by the movie than I was by the instructions on the package of this liner. Seriously, if you don't mind tossing a few bucks away on a mediocre liner (as others have said, it's non-reflective and generally a poor fit), this is the most well-packaged mediocre liner available. I'll still use foil some of the time, but everytime I reach for this liner, I crack up, just thinking of the instructions.

"Happy we bought this from Amazon" 2009-08-04
By S. Borland
We are very happy that we purchased this product. We wanted a new toaster oven that was larger and had more features than our old Panasonic. Husband narrowed down to this model and two others. We opted for this one, due to great features like convection oven and good size for cooking small family meals. Amazon service was great - the oven was shipped (super saver) on time and arrived two days earlier than scheduled. So far, after two weeks, we are very pleased with it. Of course, toast and bagels come out great. Frozen entrees cooked up faster than our full-size oven could handle. Recently, we cooked roasted potatoes (tossed with olive oil, fresh rosemary, thyme and salt) and loved the results - perfectly cooked without heating up the entire kitchen in July in Virginia.

 "Solid Unit!!" 2009-07-29
By K. benford
I just received unit to replace and update older Cuisinart. The Breville is such an improvement over the Cuisinart, you have to see to believe! I tested unit immediately, toasting which was very good. The controls are excellant so you can adjust a number of different ways. The magnetic closing and rack coming out halfway is a energy saving and convenience. This oven will stay hot for a while after using. Heat stays in the oven with the great closing system on the door, less wasted heat, keeping it in the oven where it belongs! The price is good for the quality of this oven. This unit is highly recommended.

My full-size oven is feeling lonely. My toaster went to charity. This is a fabulous little piece of wonderful. One of my biggest joys is baking, and this oven turns out beautiful bread, cookies, pies, and cakes. I was suspicious of the built-in programs like pizza and cookies, but they are on the mark and are great time savers. The pans it came with are all you need, but of course I had to add the Fox Run 13 inch pizza stone for French bread and pizzas.

I was so hesitant about paying so much for what I thought was a glorified toaster oven.Wow, was I wrong. It is the most amazing little workhorse. It is so easy to use & clean. The toast can be customized to personal preference & comes out perfect every time.Cookies turn out great & so much easier than bending down in big oven.I have a gas stove, so saves energy too.I love the keep warm & reheat feature. No more microwave taste. All functions work to perfection. It actually seems to have a "brain" as to timing & temp.My only wish is that they would make more pans to fit this oven since glass is not recommended.Still, I would not be without this oven.

 "Great Toaster Oven" 2009-07-06
By Winston Jung (Pacifica, CA USA)
I have owned several different brands of toaster ovens and some of them were of the high end variety. I like the ease of use of this oven. Particularly, my last high end toaster oven had problems with crumbs and grease build up on the bottom hinged. It came to a point that the oven door could no longer be closed and that became very annoying. It was not possible to clean the bottom of the toaster oven properly to prevent this. The Breville is a lot easier to clean and maintain. I have only had this oven for 2 months and I am extremely pleased with it.

 "I'm lovin' this oven" 2009-08-12
By Crochet Lover (Murfreesboro, TN)
Great features, wonderful size. I've baked brownies in a 9x13-inch pan (without handles); results were excellent. One reviewer wrote that there's no count-down feature for time left to cook -- really, there is. During baking time, the display alternately shows the oven temperature and the time left to cook, in minutes. The display switches info every second or two, and that's not bad. I've had my oven just a few weeks and am thrilled with it. We save energy by using a countertop oven, as opposed to a regular big oven, and the room stays cool. It preheats very quickly, which surprised me. I'm actually cooking more now, since it's so easy (and much faster) to make and serve a casserole, or bake a dessert or muffins. The roomy interior was a huge selling point for me. The removable oven rack can go into four different positions - the rack is inverted for two of those positions, so food can be placed closer to the heating elements or farther away. The "ready" signal is loud enough to be heard in the next room, which is a big plus feature. It beeps when it has preheated to the proper temperature, and it beeps when the cooking is done. Bottom line: I'm lovin' this oven!

This toaster is awesome. It toasts everything I want it to. I don't use any of the other features really though. I have an oven, but for little things this toaster is awesome. Easy to clean tray and a very solid unit. I would be careful with putting stuff on top because it gets HOT, but as long as you are aware of that fact you will be fine. Live in a house with 6 people, so need a BIG toaster and this fits the bill. I also know other people that own it and they are very satisfied.

"Great oven at a great price" 2009-07-27
By Johnny C. Niezgoski (Detroit, MI)
Like the first reviewer, we also had a bad experience with a lesser model from Black & Decker and were afraid to try another one. Finding her review permitted us to take a chance and boy are we glad we did. This oven has completely lived up to all of its specs: fits a 12" pizza without issue, is great for chicken breasts and breakfast meats, actually toasts toast, and doesnt heat up the whole house like the full size oven. We are particularly happy with how well it does frozen items like tots so quickly with the convection oven. It is very easy to use, but like the original reviewer said it is very loud. It would be great to be able to disable or turn down the audible alarms, but this small thing is well worth dealing with compared to how well it works. We highly recommend this to any family. It is being used nearly every day and we have had it for 3 months now.

It should be noted that the outside does get quite hot, so care has to be taken when this is in reach of a young one. However, from the research we have done, it seems that most of these small tosters do get hot. To avoid this, it seems one has to spend considerably more money.

We have had B&D ovens for years and bought this one to replace the B&D Dine-in Model that we loved. This oven gets so hot on the handle and on the outside I can't believe it is on the market. Today I burnt my finger on the handle. DO NOT BUY THIS OVEN. Aside from that it is difficult to use as you have to set the temp, then time, then hit start all before the oven thinks you have changed your mind and shuts down. I regret buying this oven.

 "Good Features, but..." 2009-06-17
By D. Palmer (South Carolina)
I have owned this oven for 3 months now after our 12 yr old Cuisinart died. I chose Black & Decker because it would hold a 9x13 pan and 6 pieces of toast, and was half the price of a new Cuisinart. We use this oven for baking or toasting every day. I have never broiled meat in it, but it broils vegetables just fine. It toasts okay and bakes evenly. If you bake in a large pan you need to turn it around half-way through the baking time. Cakes, brownies, chicken, pork chops, casseroles, etc. come out just fine.

The oven has a crumb tray that pulls out from the front. The cooking rack can be adjusted in 4 different positions. The door handle stays cool even if the oven has been on for 1+ hours. The convection fan is much quieter than our old Cuisinart. The oven is only 2 inches longer than our old Cuisinart and the depth and height are the same. So you get a much larger cooking space for the same footprint. It comes with a nice heavy 9x12 pan and round pizza pan. Being able to use the toaster oven with a large pan(instead of the large range) is a blessing in our southern summer heat.

Now for the not so good... The control buttons are flimsy, cheap plastic. They sit crooked and feel wobbly when you press them. And every time you press a button it beeps VERY LOUDLY. This oven is very complicated to use. You have to press multiple buttons every time you use it. To convection bake you must press Bake, Conv, Temp (to adjust) and then Start. Only after the oven preheats can you set the timer. You can't use it without setting the timer. If you do, it remembers the amount of time used during its last cycle and will only stay on for that long. To toast you must press Toast, Temp (to adjust) and then Start. The toaster's timer is pre-programmed by temp.

The exterior of this appliance is not stainless. I don't know what it is. I set a warm pie plate on top and now the oven is marked with black streaks that will not clean off. The interior is slick black metal, I think. The rack seems to be stainless. I don't think the included pans are stainless. This oven will truly hold a 9x13 pan if it does not have handles. Although advertised to hold a 12-inch pizza, it will not hold our 12-inch pizza stone. The oven's highest bake temp is 450 degrees.

I expected more quality for the price. This oven should have cost $45 tops. When it breaks, and I'm sure it will within the first year - I'm going to buy a Cuisinart. I've learned it's worth the extra money to get quality, ease of use, and reliability.

 "So Disappointed...poorly made" 2009-08-04
By Pleased. (Atlanta, GA United States)
Received this as a gift from a catalog. I picked it out myself, thinking that, despite reviews, surely it will be better than our previous toaster oven that heated unevenly. When we received it, I was thrilled. The idea and functionality is a good one, but the execution is poor. The oven feature didn't work, we had to slam the slider over hard to get it to stay lit. Usually it just turns off automatically, not in a temperature control way, the heating elements just don't turn on at all. I finally called Hamilton Beach, and because we received it as a gift, and their warranty doesn't include shipping and handling, now I have to pay to have it shipped to me. Trust me, from a normally optimistic consumer, stay away. Look for a sturdier product with known quality control.

 "Get the Toastation II" 2009-07-03
By Noah Roads (O-Town, Florida)
All the reviews and low scores I have seen on here are from issues that have been fixed with the newer model.

I recently went to Target and bought the two slice Toastation II, it is an improved model, mine came in brushed chrome and black on the sides. I brought it home and tested it and there were no issues at all.

It toasted my bread evenly and perfectly, they didn't even come out "too hot to touch" like some toasters do. I was able to fit two 2in thick bagels in the oven. The little oven door opens effortlessly, no sticking or dropping the tray and there is a nice BIG "cancel button" on the toast dial that pops up your bread if you want it out earlier. No fishing around for anything, no slip-throughs, no flying across the room.

I don't have any experience with the original model..this model looks more sleek than the square one pictured here. If you see it at the stores make sure the box says "Toastation II" on it, mine even had a sticker that said "new and improved"..so I guess it's brand new. If you are buying online, ask your retailer what version it is.

This is a great little toaster/oven!! It really deserves a chance and considering most cheap 2-slot toasters are about $6 and most cheap toaster ovens are in the high 20s to low 30s I would say for $37, all-in-one this is a STEAL! Try it!
