Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY the Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven. I had one that the timer stopped working on after about a year. The end result of that was the toaster did not stop toasting and eventually caught fire. I foolishly ended up buying a newer model Toast-R-Oven, and had the same thing happen again today. Not sure if we even made it to the one year mark with this second one. The small price tag on this turns out not to be so small if you have to replace your Toast -R-Oven year after year or worse causes a fire in your home. I honestly can't believe this thing is even on the market.

We bought this little B&D toaster oven to replace one that we bought years ago and absolutely loved. We have had this one for a couple of months, and absolutely hate it. As others have reported, it does not turn off when it dings. More annoying, though, is that the top heating element burns any food taller than 1/2". I tried contacting B&D to see whether ours was somehow defective with the top shielding, and I got back a very generic response indicating they had no idea what I was talking about. This is one of those unfortunate incidences where they took a good product and ruined it by "improvements".

I bought this from Macy's and read some mixed reviews. I thought I also checked some on Amazon when I was doing some price comparisons. Maybe I read the wrong model or read that one good review out of the many bad ones. Well, bottom line is you should not buy this. Do not waste your time. I agree they should do a recall. I tested the toast setting for the first time with nothing inside to make sure it worked properly. When the timer hit light toast I put a piece of bread in it and long before the ding went off it started to turn black and burn along the edges. I threw the toast away and was going to try another setting when the door refused to open. Two people could not open it without fear of breaking the machine. When it completely cooled I managed to stick my small hand through the crack of the door to jam it out and get it ready to go back in the box for a full return. Imagine if the burnt toast was still inside or your kids got to it and it started burning. And when you pull the wire out of the socket which does create a spark, the timer is still going. Ahh! Pretty annoying, scary and time consuming.

My unit is less than one month old, and regardless how many minutes I set the timer for, or the toast darkness level, the timer stops ticking before it reaches zero, and so the unit stays "on" forever and burns everything.
It's a fire hazard that should be recalled. Even toasters from the '50s had automatic shut-off.

This toaster gets as hot on the outside as it does on the inside. Of course, Black and Decker provides a warning label on the outside of the toaster that says CAUTION: Hot surface, but that is an understatement. The toaster only toasts bread well within a 1/16th of an inch on the meter when it is working. But for the last twenty times I used it the TOASTER DIDN'T STOP TOASTING. After the fifth time of setting off the fire alarm and almost burning the house down, I threw the toaster oven away. This is a dangerous product.
