"oven great but convection temperature must be adjusted" 2009-07-07
By PT Lady (Southeast)
Hamilton beach 31199R countertop oven. Love the oven...Now that I have, thanks to another reviewer, discovered that the oven runs about 50F over the setting on convection, it works great. I simply set the oven for 300F when I want 350F...very easy fix.

 "Save your money!" 2009-03-01
By Nanny (Hadley, MI USA)
We purchased this product from an brick and mortar store on 2/14/08. It is not as it was advertised from the manufacturers. We purchased it for the main use of a rotisserie.

First of all, it takes apx. 2.5 hours to broil a 7 lb chicken. If you can successfully get the chicken in the oven and it remains on the spit for the full time. I don't know how many times we had to remove the chicken to re-tie it and re-insert it into the oven.

Second, the tines/forks are very flimsy. They start to bend and flex with the movement of the spit. They will not stay in the chicken. The wing nuts that screw into the tines will not stay snug on the rod. They even got stripped over a period of a few months usage. (Mind you, we would only use the rotisserie feature once a month)

Third, the lowest shelf for the rack sits too close so that as the chicken rotates, it rubs against the tray and often prevents the chicken from rotating.

Fourth, the tray often would warp, and rise on one end or the other, thereby causing the juices to run off of the tray.

After all of that, after a year of using it about once a month, it will not rotate the chicken completly, but does a half rotate, browning only one side of the bird.

I guess if you buy this for the other features, it may be ok. But why would you want such a large countertop oven that takes up so much of its space! Especially if you can't use all of its features.

What a waste of time, space, and money! Save these precious things and look elsewhere!

 "Great little oven" 2009-02-14
By D. Vallone (Saint Cloud, FLORIDA United States)
I bought this oven to save from turning on my big kitchen oven for smaller items. The first thing I made was a rotisserie chicken. I have never cooked one before. It came out fantastic. The directions were easy to follow. I was amazed at how juicy it was and no mess. What an easy clean up. Since then, we have cooked burgers, chicken breasts on the convection setting. I would recommend this oven. It is the right size pizza, snacks and you can do larger items as well. The clean up once again is amazingly simple. I lined the tray with foil to make it even easier. I hope this helps you.

"Sadly, had to send it back" 2009-02-08
By R. Roberts (Springfield, MO)
With high hopes we purchased the Hamilton Beach counter top convection oven. We researched several different ovens, and based on the reviews chose this one. We tried it out the first day, and noticed that when taking it out of the box the top of the oven had several small dents in it. We decided that the dents alone weren't a problem, we could live with them, but once we turned it on (following the manufacturers recommendations) the convection setting had an awful rattling noise. It was so loud it actually vibrated items on the counter sitting close to it. We cooked two meals in it and decided that the noise just couldn't be right and wasn't acceptable. We did not want to listen to that every time we cooked something. So we decided to send it back and purchased a Breville through Amazon instead. Hopefully, the next convection oven will be a winner.
